  2. We've had very few donations over the year. I'm going to be short soon as some personal things are keeping me from putting up the money. If you have something small to contribute it's greatly appreciated. Please put your screen name as well so that I can give you credit. Click here: Donations

As I think everyone knows, our own uncle phil lost his battle with cancer recently. cynthetiq , mixedmedia and I discussed the idea of changing our donations to something in his memory for the near future. We know that many of you want to do something but don't know what. We've reached out to Marilyn to get her input, but effective immediately, all donations to the site will be donated in Phil's name. We are leaning towards the Cancer Research Institute or the hospice, but we won't make a final decision until we hear back from Marilyn.

In case you need a further incentive to donate, cynthetiq will be giving away 5 of the Uncle Phil keychains to donors.

I had these made on the streets of Mumbai in honor of Uncle Phil. Each one was made by hand from a single piece of metal.

I took them with me to a temple outside of Bangkok to have breakfast with monks and tigers.

Make a donation and you'll get a chance to get one of these key chains.

I know that money is tight for a lot of us (myself included) but even small donations can add up to make a difference - so let's pull together as a community and give what we can. For Phil, for ourselves and for all of our friends and family members whose lives have been touched by cancer.

Donated. I like the Cancer Research Institute idea best, but I'll leave it up to the good judgment of those making financial decisions here. Good idea guys.

    Done.

(Eh, Cyn ... don't bother entering me for the key-chain ... it's beautiful, and it feels far more proper that someone who knew him longer and more closely than I did should have the chance :) )

Thanks Zen. That's a great reminder. If you want to opt out of the keychain, feel free to let us know here or in a private message. We certainly won't hold it against you.

Honestly, I think the funds would be best served to be given to a non-profit organisation that does practical right-now-right-here work for people with cancer, and their families.

I have the impression that Cancer Research already receives tens and tens of millions of dollars in donations and public funds, if not more. But other places, such as Phil's Hospice, seem like prime candidates to be vastly underfunded.

Or other organisations that do similar work to alleviate cancer patients' issues and help them right now.

Maybe the fine folks in the TFP administration could put up a poll of a shortlist of worthwhile causes, and leave it up to a democratic process. Seems like the right way to go, since everyone is pitching in. Whether only those who donated get to vote, or everyone... is a decision for the admins.

    What do you think?

It's the least I could do for such a great man. I only wish I could give more. cynthetiq , is it all right if I give the donation information to my friends/family outside of TFP who donate to cancer-related causes?

Of course... so long as you are comfortable with giving TFP out.

I say we stick by our original plan and let Marilyn make the call. If she hands it back to us, then maybe we'll do what you've suggested, but at this point, if you're not going to donate because you don't want to support the charity of her choice, that's your prerogative.
