Food Looking for Chicago restaurant suggestions, yes, you heard me. But for breakfast/brunch only!

The wife and I are going downtown in a few weeks and having a nice night out, then planning on doing a late breakfast or brunch somewhere on Sunday. We are wanting to try some place new. We prefer it to be something a little unique.
David Burke's has the best brunch in town, but we'll be going there for dinner the night before.
I like Twisted Spoke, great bloody mary choices and very good breakfast, but it hasn't been too long since we were there.
Kuma's Corner was a thought for an early lunch, but again, we want something new.
Lou Mitchell's is great for breakfast, but we've been there many times.
I wanted to do Frontera Grill, but they are closed on Sunday. :sadnana:
I'm going to do some research on my own, but was curious as to what suggestions anyone else had. We are open to most any style of food. Price is unimportant, some of the best breakfast places are holes-in-the-wall, but we also aren't opposed to paying for something special. Small bonus points if it is within walking distance of the Conrad Hotel (500 block N Rush), but that's fairly unimportant.

    GO!

The Marquette Inn at Clark and Adams isn't bad. It's a greasy spoon, so you kind of have to be into that kind of thing. Not great coffee, though.

If you're willing to travel, I highly recommend Nookies at Bryn Mawr and Winthrop (just off the Red Line). A bit of a hike, but it's upscale and serves Metropolis coffee, which you will quickly become addicted to. They also have a full bar.

There's also M. Henry at Clark and Hollywood (again, pretty far north). Great coffee and they're pretty much a brunch place. They don't take reservations, so you might have to wait. No bloody marys, though. Their pastries are awesome, though.

The Fireside, where amonkie was originally going to have her wedding reception, has good bloodies and a pretty good selection of food. It's not my favorite, but I know a lot of folks who love it. Ravenswood and Rosehill.

Going back farther south, there's Wishbone at Lincoln and School as well as another one at Washington and Morgan (West Loop, right by Harpo Studio). It's soul food/southern cooking and has a decent bloody (not my favorite, though).

Nightwood on Halsted and Cermak is supposed to be pretty good too, although I've never been.

Cool, thanks for the suggestions. You aren't all bad, no matter what ZombieSquirrel says about you during pillow talk.

Any reason why you said that particular Nookies? I see that there are a few other locations closer to downtown, but didn't know if there was a reason you suggested the one up north?

My guess is that we'll be checking out of the hotel and driving to wherever we go if it's not within several blocks, so direction doesn't really matter too much to me. We won't be in a hurry, but anything south (we'll be heading towards I-57 to go pick up Stanley at my parents' house) will be on our way.

Though I just had an epiphany. I wonder if Burt's (famous pizza place up north) is open for lunch on Sundays. We've been dying to go there and it's a long hike from us, so heading there from the city would be easier. Hrmmm.

That Nookies is the newest one and has a more upscale menu than the others, Borla. It's also the one that has the best chance of little to no wait since it's new.

As for Burt's, unless you mean the one in the suburbs, I'm not familiar with it. Great Lakes Pizza, though, is supposed to be the best in the country. And they're soup-nazi enough to send a very pregnant Beyonce next door to eat fries with Jay-Z while they served the folks at the front of the line.

Yeah, by "up north" I was talking north burbs, Morton Grove. But it is closed on Sunday's.

I just looked at Great Lakes Pizza, it only shows hours for Wed-Sat.

  6. Every time I visited my friend in Chicago, we would have brunch at Wilde.

  8. Yeah. I don't want you entering one of my favorite places.

So much I could do with this one.

I deserve a medal for not ramming it home.

She couldn't have made it any more obvious that she wanted it.

I will bet you a prime ribeye that she has one of those pictures of shirtless 8th grade Borla printed out and taped next to her monitor.

  14. After I posted that, I knew you guy would say something. Thanks for not disappointing.

Wilde is great! I'm a fan of The Importance of Being Earnest and my friend is Gay. It's our perfect brunch spot. Their mimosas are yummy and the service doesn't suck. Well they might behind closed doors. My last server was sort of fabulous.

I can't get the thought of Glory's Sun and the_jazz meeting up there for a secret rendez-vous.

I had a great Sunday morning breakfast at a little place called the Lucky Platter. It's just barely into Evanston on Main Street just East of Chicago Ave. Had a great Greek omelet and Sig had Swedish pancakes and said that they were really like in Sweden.

I can vouch for MHenry, Wishbone, and Fireside. Any of those are solids.

Also a good spot is Lula cafe in Logan Square, or Heartland Cafe is another popular brunch spot on the north side.

There are several The Yolk breakfast/brunch spots around downtown.

I haven't had the brunch buffet at the Signature Room but know a few who have and said it was a fun experience to try once.

I've had brunch at The Signature Room (on top of the John Hancock). The food is ok, but the view is spectacular. But if it's cloudy, find something else.

I forgot about The Yolk. It's fine too, although it's kind of a chain. Then again, Borla doesn't exactly strike me as someone who comes to downtown Chicago to go to Red Lobster.

The view is really wonderful. There's no rush, either. The service was good when we went, and we enjoyed ourselves. While it was one of the more spendy meals out we did while in Chicago, it was worth it to us to have a place to sit and really enjoy the view of the city and the lake.

Heartland Cafe is really good, although we never went there for brunch.
