Politics Impeachment?

It's actually happening. Obama's policies have bothered enough people that lawmakers are threatening and citizens have begun filing for impeachment.

» Citizens File Articles of Impeachment Against Obama Alex Jones' Infowars: There's a war on for your mind!

These same people are stocking up on guns and ammo.

What does Obama's anti-gun stance mean for America?
How will people respond when he makes an official statement tomorrow? Worst case? Best?
    Is anyone else somewhat worried?

Infowars is a crackpot website, and Alex Jones is crackpot in chief.

As for Congressman Stockman, I'll let his words speak for him:

So here's a guy who thinks that Boehner just isn't conservative enough. Yeah.

EDIT: Just to illustrate how much of a crackpot Alex Jones is, check out his recent interview with Piers Morgan on CNN:

Watch him spend the first three and a half minutes working himself into a froth, and then inexplicably start talking about sharks, before challenging Mr. Morgan to a boxing match. It has to be seen to be believed.

The claim that Obama will eviscerate the 2nd amendment through Executive Orders is just the latest example of right wing paranoia, ignorance and intolerance, following on the heels of the "threat" to US sovereignty from UN treaties (agenda 21, rights of handicapped, international gun trafficking), the infiltration of Muslims in the Obama administration, the birther movement, etc. increasingly become part of the mainstream Republican message.

It is becoming the standard plan for Republicans. If you can't find corruption or a scandal, make one up and try to impeach the President for some small thing.

Say what you will about Piers Morgan, he demonstrated the patience of a saint. His "whatever" at the end really just says it all.

If you liked that, check out the follow-up video Jones shot from his hotel room. Voice still hoarse from shouting at Piers for nearly fifteen minutes, he claims that random pedestrians around the studio before and after filming the segment (including one who approached them as a fan) were undercover police, allegedly stalking him and his crew under orders from Mayor Bloomberg:

You do realize people have been talking about impeaching Obama since before he took the oath of office the four years ago, right?

Yes, but this time it actually seems like an immediate threat - don't you get nervous when stockpiles of arsenals are built up as if people are planning to arm a personal militia?

Sure it makes me nervous. Obama's been great for gun sales, almost make me wish I renewed my FFL... almost. Personally I'd prefer not to be part of this great arming of the US. Selling side arms to other officers and rifles to fellow hunters is one thing but helping a bunch of people build an armed militia with intentions of, well I don't actually know their intentions. That makes me nervous. My guess is a large %, an overwhelming % are reasonable people with nothing more going on then wanting to protect themselves and their right to own firearms. But there's a very good chance that somewhere in the mix there's a few nut bags, the kinds of folks who blew up the Fed. Blg in Oklahoma who will take seriously harmful action as a preemptive measure.

I have no idea whats going to happen. I don't see where there's much room to debate we should take no action. Kids are getting shot at school, people are being killed while holiday shopping. Every time one of these incidents happen there a call from the NRA, a group I have zero respect for as a gun owner, that "now is not the time to debate this issue." Well these events are happening about once a month so just when would be a good time?

Then you have sheriffs like this guy from Oregon-

Oregon sheriff: 'Unconstitutional' gun control laws won't be enforced - CNN.com

He's not going to enforce or let the feds enforce any laws that are passed that he decides are unconstitutional. So basically we have elected officials who now think they're on the SCOTUS.

None of this sounds like a good mix to me.

But impeachment? What action has Obama taken that would be an impeachable offensive?

I remember similar militias and arms stockpiles back when Clinton was in power as well.

Oddly, not when either Bush was in power.

The Dept of Homeland Security issued a report in 2009 on the rise of right wing extremism, attributing it in part to the election of the first black president and the fear of :
Proposed imposition of firearms restrictions and weapons bans likely would attract new members into the ranks of rightwing extremist groups, as well as potentially spur some of them to begin planning and training for violence against the government. The high volume of purchases and stockpiling of weapons and ammunition by rightwing extremists in anticipation of restrictions and bans in some parts of the country continue to be a primary
    concern to law enforcement.

The outcry from the right was so intense, including threats from Republicans in Congress to withhold funding for DHS, that the report was buried. Hearings were held in the House on the threat of Muslim terrorism in the US, but Republicans refused to hold hearings on right wing extremism and:
The Department of Homeland Security has stepped back for the past two years from conducting its own intelligence and analysis of home-grown extremism, according to current and former department officials, even though law enforcement and civil rights experts have warned of rising extremist threats.
The department has cut the number of personnel studying domestic terrorism unrelated to Islam, canceled numerous state and local law enforcement briefings, and held up dissemination of nearly a dozen reports on extremist groups, the officials and others said.
The decision to reduce the department’s role was provoked by conservative criticism of an intelligence report on “Rightwing Extremism” issued four months into the Obama administration, the officials said.
Yes, I am nervous and concerned.

    The impeachment threat?

Dennis Kucinich filed impeachment bills against Bush every year after the invasion and occupation of Iraq and the start of the illegal program to conduct surveillance on US citizens.

The difference is that he was pretty much a lone voice. An impeachment effort against Obama will certainly have greater support among the more extremists Republicans in Congress. Their disdain for Obama goes beyond policy considerations to deeply held personal animosity.

    Not just this sheriff.

State legislators in Wyoming and Texas have introduced bills to arrest any federal official that attempts to enforce federal gun laws that the state considers unconstitutional, despite the fact that these bills are unconstitutional. Similar bills are being considered in Missouri and Tennessee.

Oh I know it's not just him. Ever since Obama was sworn in there have been Governor, Judges, Law Enforcement and other officials that either claim they'll not up hold laws passed or executive orders he signs. This has happened before and it'll happen again but I think Obama faced this on a level not seen in the past. But you know it has nothing to do with him being black... right.

As far as we know, Obama's stance isn't anti-gun. This line of thinking has a lot to do with the political problems about guns. Obama isn't going to take away all the guns. Obama wants regulation. That's not anti-gun anymore than wanting regulations in the markets is anti-capitalism. That's not anti-gun any more than wanting regulations on food production, preparation, and distribution is anti-food.

I think it's more of a question on constitutionality. As always, that's the source of the debate.

Worst case? The most extreme and paranoid elements of American neofascism will think "this is it," and will mobilize by blatantly ignoring any changes, even if this includes overtaking parts of the manufacturing and distribution chains. They will conduct violent actions against any government or law enforcement who oppose them. They will even conduct acts of violence against non-white and/or non-Christian scapegoats, because that's what fascists do.

Best case? People will buy up as much as they can, and people will continue the debate about how the republic is going to collapse under the tyranny of government. In other words, the status quo.

Oh, it's worrisome. But these things aren't the problems so much as catalysts, whether warranted or not. Right-wing and neofascist extremism is worrisome whether or not they're currently stirred up like a hornet's nest batted like a piñata.

Oh, and Alex Jones is a lunatic.

A dangerous one. People listen to him. He produces what some people call "paranoia porn."
