How Often Do You Go to the Movies?

Seldom, closer to never. Seldom have time to devote to a movie. Hardly ever watch them at home, either for the same reason. And quite frankly, I get bored with many of them.

 

I rarely go to the movie theater. I live in the sticks, have a nice home theater setup, and a very comfy recliner. To me, the cost and effort involved exceed the price of a blue-ray.

Last movie that I saw in a theater was The Avengers; I've been meaning to see The Hobbit.

 

I think its been 4 or 5 years since I last saw one in the theater.
I really have trouble sitting still for the 90 - 120 minutes that the movies require, although it's no problem for me to sit that long reading a book.
I also am clearly "old" now because they play the damned music too loud!

 

I generally go whenever a new movie I've been looking forward comes out.

 

Last film I watched on a large theatre screen was Harry Potter 7 part 2 back in 2011.
It would not shock me if I make it through this year as well without setting foot in a cinema. No way in hell am I watching the next Star Trek film before it hits the redbox; I still want my money back from enduring the last Abrams joke, and that same idea served me well enough when I avoided the third Star Wars prequel after suffering through the first two.
That trailer for the Tom Cruise? film showing the abandoned/destroyed world looks interesting; might check it out when it hits video.

 

When it's something g we want to see in XD or 3D. Or really need to get out of the house. Last one was Django.

 

I would love to be able to go once a week. Sadly, I don't have the time.

I probably get there about once every three months or so.

The name means nothing to me..off to check on through this internet thing. Some BBC actor I have never seen in anything to the best of my memory. I could see him playing Stephen Hawking which must have been one of his more prominent roles as it is was mentioned first on one of those google snippets retrieved.

James Bond is still Pierce Brosnan to me. Never have seen Daniel Craig in the role or anything where he uses a British accent for that matter.

 

In high school, I used to go almost every weekend because there was nothing else to do. Throughout school up north, one of the lecture halls showed a recent movie every weekend for $3, so I would go to that occasionally. Don't have too much time for movie seeing anymore, but I occasionally go to the second run theater by my house on Tuesdays (free popcorn Tuesday!) and see big movies about a month after they come out in the regular theaters for $3.50. It's local and a lot of fun.

 

Not very often, actually...this past year, I've seen more movies in the theatre than probably the previous five years combined. Off the top of my head, I can only think of a few movies coming out this year that I really want to see (Thor, Catching Fire, Oz.) I'm just not a big fan of crowds, or sitting next to strangers. And prices are pretty ridiculous...especially since I have to have something to drink, and something to munch on while I'm watching

There IS an awesome dollar theatre downtown where you can see a movie and get a small popcorn, small drink, and pack of candy for less than ten bucks...I need to hit that one up more.

 

You do realise he is actually English, though, don't you? So, you have only seen him doing things in his non-native voice...

 

Speed_Gibson, you really should check out the BBC series Sherlock. It's most excellent.

As for cinemas, I worked for a few years at repertory cinemas (one in Ottawa and one in Toronto). I also did my degree in film studies and produced a campus radio show that was all about film... I had access to films. There was a time when I wouldn't go a week without seeing upwards of five (or more).

With my career move away from film and into television, I don't see as many films as I used to. I almost changed that last November but I turned down the opportunity to run a channel that airs a tonne of films.

I once had a dream of owning a cinema but the reality is, you can't really make a living showing films these days (not a good one anyway).

 

I love going to the movies. Movies and books are my two biggest vices.

Pre-baby, Mrs. Levite and I went once a week or every other week; more often when we still lived in LA. But now we rarely have the time and energy to go. Unfortunately. We saw "Silver Linings Playbook," (excellent, I thought) and "Les Miz," but precious little else in the last several months. When the summer blockbusters start coming out, we'll get babysitters; but at this point we have to be pretty specifically motivated to get to a movie, not just feeling like seeing whatever film happens to be out and looks watchable.... We both watch a fair amount of movies on iTunes or Netflix, but that's hardly the same experience as actually going to a good theater. And I am extremely picky about the theaters I will go to: they have to be absolutely top quality, otherwise I feel like it's just not worth it. Probably comes from having grown up in LA, and done most of my moviegoing at the Chinese Theater and the Cinerama Dome and other amazing and iconic movie palaces, in a culture that intensely values both the art of cinema and the aesthetic of the moviegoing experience.

 

I enjoy movies in theatres but am restricted to which theatres will provide closed captions on screen or with assistive devices. For a long time the nearest theater doing this was 2 hours away, and it just wasn't feasible.

I did support the local independent theatre that charged $5 for matinees despite no captions because I wanted to support local businesses. It was worth it when they had Makers Mark 46 in their bar

Now that there is a captioning theatre less than 10 minutes from home, we try to go once a month.
