In the true spirt of democracy, a bill introduced by a Republican state legislator in Missouri would make it a felony for a member of the legislature to even propose gun control legislation:

How can a legislature charge a member for introducing a bill? And I thought NC's bill to charge women with a felony for a nipple slip to be over the top.

Rayne Brown, GOP lawmaker in North Carolina, wants to make exposing a nipple a felony

Shall we count the ways in which the new Republican Party is committing suicide, one nonsensical proposal at a time?

ABC's website reach extends across the globe. My statement is a commonly used euphemism.

Right, you can make him sound like a bigot. If that is what you think, say it. Say it direct to his face. If you want to discuss the real underlying issue - the intent of the 2nd Amendment, let me know.

When, under the Guardianship of the Islamic Jurists, the ayatollahs of الخلافة المتحدة الامريكية (aka the United Caliphate of America) order the beheading of your sons and the stoning of your daughters, you, sir, will eat those words.

    He is a bigot!

Second Amendment rights are not absolute.

And, there is no federal proposal to take away anyone's guns.

I don't know him and I don't know if he is or is not a bigot. I am not going to go in this direction.

I think the intent of the 2nd Amendment in the context of a well armed militia is to insure US citizens maintain a means to defend freedom - this defense may appear to be obsolete to some but it is not in my view and I think those who would threaten freedom will hesitate within the US.

Even I support limitations on certain types of "guns" and limitations on certain people having guns. I don't know what you are talking about - is it more double speak? Why can't you say what you really mean?

How many honor killings have we had in the US? How many in Canada? Would you deny the victims a right to defend their lives with firearms if it was their choice?

The double speak or the blatantly dishonest fear mongering is coming from guys like Gohmert, numerous other Republicans, the NRA and conspiracy nuts with their baseless rhetoric of plans or desires to confiscate guns from law abiding citizens.

Background checks are already law. What are you talking about?

What would you suggest Chicago do? They have banned the sale of all firearms, banned assault weapons and high capacity magazines and imposed severe restrictions on handgun ownership. Criminals are not getting their guns in Chicago. Criminals are getting their guns from outside of Chicago. There is little the local authorities can do to stop that. At this stage, I believe their focus needs to be on ramping up their law enforcement efforts and where possible enforcing federal laws already on the books.

A rise in gun crime is not a reflection of gun bans, where they exist, so if you dare to suggest that the solution is more guns or a lifting of the bans and restrictions in Chicago, please provide your rationale.

These aren't sharia law rulings; they're murders.

Are they (we) all bigots? If that is what you think and if that is your take on what is said in context of the intent of the 2nd Amendment, I can clearly see your difficulty in communicating with them (us) on this topic. If you can separate bigotry from the underlying issues, let me know.

Are you talking about a Red Dawn style rebellion against outsiders or a threat from our own federal government?

What well armed militia? You mean our US military?

I am not sure I understand what the President is proposing, but it appears that he wants increased background checks or something. Perhaps you can tell me what he is talking about.

Actually the President touched on the real issue in my opinion. It is the high frequency of single mother households. I think we need to change this and it will lead to more civil and responsible young men. I think fathers play an important role in the lives of young men. I am not disparaging single mothers, they in many instances to a remarkable job and face tremendous challenges. I think as a society we are failing these women and the children raised in these circumstances. Understand , I am saying this in general terms. But the numbers are clear in terms of violence and young men raised in single mother households. There is also a connection with poverty. Strong families, equal strong communities.

I would agree with you. However, I doubt those involved in honor killings or support honor killings would agree.

Both and threats to freedom, rights to life and property. My father is 72, in his lifetime and he is still alive, he personally knows of people who were visited by groups like the KKK, people who disappeared or died under mysterious or officially recorded as unknown circumstances. He is a registered Democrat, living in the Chicago area, and no one will ever get him to give up his gun.

    Nope.

Of those who resort to the rhetoric of the "coming confiscation" of guns, some are bigots, others are conspiracy nuts or recognize that inflammatory language is good for fundraising and/or ratings, or are misguided in their belief that Second Amendment rights are absolute.

Communicating with these folks is a certainly difficult. Fortunately, more and more gun owners are coming around to support reasonable regulations that do not infringe on the rights of law abiding citizens...including universal background checks.

That's the crazy thing about the legal system. They don't have to ask murderers for permission to uphold laws regarding murder.
