Am I reading this correct? Those in this group are made up of bigots and those who are not a bigot are nuts? And you think this is the group you and others are debating this issue with?

I have never talked to anyone who did not support some reasonable gun control.

You did not answer my question. You made a choice to go off on a tangent that is outside the primary point. This is an example of you being diversionary. Now I expect that you will pretend to not know what the question was and what the primary point of the post was - totally convoluting the whole issue. If I play along, eventually you will attack me for going off point. this is the pattern.

I left out those who point only to Chicago as an example of why strict(er) gun control wont reduce gun violence.

I refer you to Congressman Gohmert and the NRA....to start.

A tangent? Are you saying honour killings aren't murder?

Actually, no it's not. It's keeping the discussion on topic, because it was your post that was diversionary. We were talking about sharia law in the U.S., and you brought up murders. I simply pointed out that you weren't keeping on topic (sharia law). The simple thing to do is realize your error and move on.

The issue only gets convoluted when I follow you down your rabbit hole. I'm going to try to avoid that this time. (Wish me luck.)

As for your questions, fuck them. I'll answer questions about the topic if you have any.

It's not an attack. Don't take it personal. Just keep on topic please. (Though I acknowledge this is a pattern.)

Private sales which require no background checks
Gun shows which are also lax about doing background checks and often allow attendees to sell to other attendees.

How is a private seller able to determine if the buyer has a criminal background? He's not.

It's a fact that poverty and the absence of black male role models has taken it's toll on each upcoming generation of black youth. What to do about it?
    In my opinion,
First, get rid of the three strikes rule and mandatory sentencing and stop the discriminatory practice of handing out long sentences to black males who have been charged with minor drug offenses or non-violent offenses. Removing them from their wives and children is not the answer. Violent criminals should of course, be imprisoned.
Second, a national commitment to reinstating the social network of community services we had prior to the 1980's, at least.
Third, provide free inpatient and outpatient drug rehabilitation for those who need it. The recovery rate is never as high as we'd like it but saving 5 people out of 20 is better than saving none.
Fourth, provide half-way housing and job training for recovering addicts and parolees.
Fifth, stop demeaning black women with children who often have little recourse but to rely on the government.
Sixth, realize that there will always be some people who are not interested in improving their lot in life but they should not be the standard by which we judge the rest.

It's not about solving everything. It's always about improving the lives of as many families as possible and about empowerment rather than discouragement and discrimination.

Right now, we are doing next to nothing and investing little in the problem (and no one denies there is one). Doing nothing and expecting the situation to improve on its own is insane.

I don't see any need for your father to give up his gun. No one else does either.

Though I do wonder how much help your father will be when the Ruskies invade. :)
