Obviously, we all have our preferences. What are your favorite cuisines? What are your favorite dishes to prepare within those preferred cuisines? Share your opinions, or better yet, your recipes!

I love food, but I particularly love Japanese food. My favorite thing to make is inarizushi. I taught myself how using this how-to: Inarizushi: sushi in a bean bag | Just Hungry When I'm looking for something simpler to make, I generally make curry rice. I prefer Vermont Curry roux cubes from House Foods, but S&B Curry is often easier to find. There is a recipe on the package, but we often wing it, and I've incorporated Japanese curry into a curry pot pie.

I've got other cuisines I adore, but I'll leave it there for now. I'm eager to see what other people have to share.

  2. Italian, just about any type of Italian. And just about any recipe. Pizza, traditional or the Americanized version. Pasta, red or white sauce but usually red. Seafood, I love scampi and calamari. There are a few dishes I'll take a pass on, but damned few. Don't care that much for marsala anything. And then there's tiramisu. mmmmm

I could eat Italian every day.

I love all kinds of food. I'm very open minded about trying things from various parts of the world, and I like a wide variety of things.

But honestly, I like American food best I think. Give me a great ribeye, or some awesome pulled pork, or fried chicken, or a great burger and I'm happy.

Most of my cooking comes on the grill, so it lends itself to that. I'd put my ability in grilling a steak, or smoking a pork shoulder, or roasting a chicken thigh/quarter, against anyone's.

I hate to be boring, but it's the truth.

Indian followed very closely by Thai.

I tend to like a wide variety of Asian cuisines. There are a few Middle Eastern things I've tried, but I haven't had much from that region. I'd like to try more African fare, as I was blown away by Ethiopian dishes a while back but haven't sought it out again. I've also enjoyed some Caribbean food, and would like to try more.

I'll eat and enjoy some well known North American dishes on a regular basis, but I really could do without if I were eating Asian cuisine from various regions. Given the choice of going to an awesome steakhouse vs. an awesome Indian restaurant, I'd almost always choose the latter. I love spices and the richness of coconut milk, butter, etc. Just the smell of Indian food makes me go crazy.

We love, love, love Thai food. There's a company here in Oregon that produces fantastic curry pastes: Welcome to Thai and True - Bring home the Thai! They make it really easy to make great Thai at home. I'm stoked to see they've started making a pad thai sauce too...I'll have to try it ;)

As for Indian food, I enjoy it quite a bit but it isn't a favorite. A friend of ours who is Indian gave us a ton of different masala mixes to try. They're fun. He made us this when we gave him some fresh tomatoes this summer, and it was fantastic: THE CHEF and HER KITCHEN: TOMATO PAPPU | TOMATO DAL..Andhra Style

Oh man...there are so many! I like cuisines from pretty much every continent; but I guess if I had to narrow it down to just a few top favorites...it would be these:

Middle Eastern: basically all the cuisines they use in Israel, so Yemenite, Moroccan, Syrian/Lebanese, Tunisian, Iraqi, Egyptian, Persian....

Italian: Tuscan, Romagnese, Milanese/Napolitano, Sicilian, Calabrese...it's all good.

French: Also pretty much all good, though I have particular weaknesses for Alsatian, Bourgognois, Norman, and Provencal.

Indian: South Indian, Punjabi, Nepali, Kashmiri, and Pakistani.

Chinese: Cantonese, Szechuan, Hunan, Shaoxing, Shanghai, Yunnan, Jiangsu...all awesome.

fflowley Don't just do something, stand there!

I'm going to go with Baraka and put Asian as a general geographic food region on top, with northern Indian food at the pinnacle.

We are devoted carnivores but I think I could enjoy going vegetarian if I always had access to Indian food.

I am all about Italian. Arrabbiata and pesto are my favorite sauces--you can toss them in with almost any combination of pasta and vegetables and I'm happy. Gnocci is amazing. I tend to lean more towards simple Tuscan-style dishes, but it's all yummy.

All of them. Ethiopian and French a little less than most. But there are things I love in nearly every cuisine out there. It'd be nearly impossible for me to to find one I didn't like.

Chinese, Japanese dirty knees and you ever seen one of these? .!..

Sorry, slap happy today. I love me some Chinese, Japanese and Thai food. It's got to have some flavor though. Kick up the spice!

    How about some Chicken Wings!!

    • 8 chicken drumsticks, skin on ( the skin is important for flavour, and is so tasty to eat!)
    • 1 cup water
    • 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
    • 1/3 cup soy sauce
    • 2 1/2 tablespoons sugar
    • 1 garlic cloves, peeled and bruised
    • 1 small hot chili peppers, slit open, seeds removed
    1. Place all the ingredients in a saucepan over a high heat.
    2. Bring to the boil, then reduce to a simmer for about 20 minutes.
    3. Remove any scum that rises to the surface.
    4. Increase the heat, turning the drumsticks frequently in the liquid, and cook until the liquid has reduced to a sticky glaze.
    5. Arrange the chicken on a serving platter, remove the garlic clove and chili from the liquid, and spoon the glaze over.
    6. NOTE It's a glaze rather than a sauce, so there's not a whole lot of it.

I always have trouble naming my favourite anything...

Living in Singapore, I can have just about any type of food I could imagine. Sure, there is a large amount of Asian food (Malaysian, Indonesian, Thai, Singaporean, Vietnamese, Burmese, Philippino, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc.) but there is also some amazing Italian, French, Middle Eastern, etc. We are spoiled for choice.

If I have to choose one dish that does it for me, it would have to be Vietnamese Pho. So much going on in one bowl.

If I had to choose only one national cuisine it would have to be the myriad Indian cuisines. I love the northern Indian rich curries with their meat heavy dishes but I am also a big fan of the southern Indian curries that are hotter and use a lot more seafood and vegetables. You could spend a lot of time exploring the subtleties of the breadth of Indian cuisine.

In fact, the same can be said for many of the nations in Asia. To say you like Chinese, Indian or Thai food usually means you are talking about one small part of a very broad, very diverse culinary history of which you have only sampled a small portion. I am still discovering new things on a regular basis. I can't wait until my new job has me travelling to a lot more of the region.

I haven't had a ton of exposure to different types of cuisines. Being that I have never left the states I have experienced the usual range of choices we have here. I am going to have to say that so far Greek or Mediterranean dishes are my fav.

This is how I feel. It's really easy to eat something veggie if it's full of flavor, and I don't think anyone can accuse Indian food of being bland.

I'm starting to get more into Korean food. Kimchee fried rice is so good. I've got some recipes to try; I just need to make a trip to the Asian market.

Asian is on the top for me as well -- particularly Thai and Szechuan. I like Ethiopian alot as well, except for the injera bread.

I've tried Caribbean and West African. The fish is ok, but not a fan of goat. And neither offer much for vegetarians.

Favorite American cuisines are probably southern low country and Cajun.

  18. Mexican, then Italian. We ate Mexican at least once a week when I was growing up, I guess it rubbed off on me.

I absolutely LOVE Mexican food, anything with green chili in it. I absolutely love Italian food too. Spaghetti is my all time favorite, followed by chicken marsala.

Food, you have to have a favorite?? I love food, period. But, if I can go get something, I'd take some Pad Thai any day! Love Thai food!! But no one else in my family will go with me, so it's very rare for me.

But any kind of comfort food will really fit the bill too. Tex-Mex, Asian (any), Mexican. Anything with spice is good!
