    Social Attitude Test

This is somewhat related to this thread: What D&D Character are you?? | The TFP

In this case, it gauges your political values. You'll find that the statements are rather loaded, but try to answer them as accurately as you can, perhaps giving some leeway where further interpretation could be a factor.

My results aren't surprising in terms of the socialism (moderate) or the tenderness (above average?), but the radicalism? Hm. Is that the right word they're using? I mean, I support the idea of change for the betterment of societies, but I normally associate radicalism with extremism. You know, like Naziism and fascism, etc.

I suppose it's okay to be a radical when you have a certain degree of tenderness. Radical change for the benefit of others. I don't mind being that kind of radical.

    What are your social attitudes?

    I associate radicalism with normalization.

    So. It's relative.

Don't really see how any thoughtful person can see it any differently.

Meh. I think the questions are skewed and I hate 5-point likert scales. They should have used a 6 or 7 point scale.
Of course I seem middle of the road sometimes. All of the questions are very absolute. I question the questionnaire.
Damn... I just need to graduate so I can expunge all this shit from my brain.

I thought it was a very difficult set of questions to answer: so many of them, my initial response was, "Well, it depends on the situation."

But I guess in any case....

These scores indicate that you are a progressive; this is the political profile one might associate with a university professor. It appears that you are skeptical towards religion, and have a pragmatic attitude towards humanity in general.

Your attitudes towards economics appear neither committedly capitalist nor socialist, and combined with your social attitudes this creates the picture of someone who would generally be described as a political centrist.

To round out the picture you appear to be, political preference aside, a centrist with many strong opinions.

I'm apparently going to be all alone in my communism.

If I were to read Das Kapital, I might be convinced. :p

  13. I don't know if I agree with my assessment. In particular, describing me as a tough minded moderate then later as right-wing. This seems to conflict. I would have described myself as a moderate, never as right wing. Also, wtf is a jaded materialist?

This showed up on my radar recently....

"I am not only a socialist but also a bit leftist, a communist. In terms of social economy theory, I am a Marxist. I think I am farther to the left than the Chinese leaders. [Bursts out laughing.] They are capitalists. [Laughs again.]"

Well, it looks like I am, in general, moderate and balanced in my attitudes and a "regular person," whatever that is.
There seems to be a tendency with this test to lump those not at least somewhat to the left of center (people like Craven and me) as "right wing."

I think that I'm mostly pragmatic, and I mostly view both communism and pure capitalism not as immoral things, but as a systems which won't work.

In my view radicalism is something which all to often tends to be prone to throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

And I equally fear those on the both right and the left whose currency is power, not gold.

These scores indicate that you are a moderate; this is the political profile one might associate with a regular person. It appears that you are moderate towards religion, and have a balanced attitude towards humanity in general.

Your attitudes towards economics appear laissez-faire capitalist, and combined with your social attitudes this creates the picture of someone who would generally be described as right-wing.

To round out the picture you appear to be, political preference aside, a centrist with few strong opinions.

This concludes our analysis; we hope you found your results accurate, useful, and interesting.

Look at it this way: If you're left-wing, it doesn't mean you're a communist, or even a socialist. If you're right-wing, it doesn't mean you're a fascist, or even a capitalist.

On the other hand, if you're not a centrist, you're going to have to go out onto one of the wings. :D

I find it hard to believe one can be a laissez-faire capitalist and not be considered right wing. It's generally important to consider that being right wing doesn't entail being all the things on the right. It can basically mean being in opposition to socialism and social democracy.

The political spectrum isn't a line so much as a chart. For example, libertarians can be either left-wing or right-wing, depending on their views of government, markets, and society.
