Sometimes, we accomplish things that may seem pointless to others, but are pretty cool to us.

Please brag to everyone about your daily little victories, so we can cheer for you!

Today, I put in an unmarked (same on front and back) flash drive correctly the first time. This never happens. It usually takes 2-3 tries because flash drives are obnoxious. I am a magician!

I managed to clean the kitchen! I spent most of today being a bum since I had the day off, and I spent my last day off running around doing tons of stuff. This was much more relaxing. That said, there are some things that just need to get done. Cleaning was one of the things on that list today, and I did it. Phew.

  3. I have a little game going on Facebook. I'm trying to build a desktop computer for a friend using absolutely no money. Gonna barter stuff I already have, or food, or something else that is not a direct transfer of money. We'll see how well this works.

Yesterday, I gave my brother the remainder of my 10-trip train ticket and forgot to buy a new one before getting on the train. I opened a beer on the fire extinguisher cabinet in the bar car and avoided the conductor long enough to get a free ride home.
I have a pile of computer parts and will trade for anything sufficiently interesting to make it worth shipping.

Last night my daughter chose to suckle on my breast over the bottle.
It's huge to me. Breastfeeding has been such a struggle.

This morning, I confirmed two titles' interiors as ready for the printer, and it's about goddamn time.

Now I need to finish proofreading another interior this weekend.

Oh, and also: That moment you realize you're working on six different book projects in some capacity this season, and the production schedule wasn't even that long.

I rode a 70ish mile course today on a bike ride organized and sponsored by my local shop. I pride myself on not having had to get off and walk or even stop part way up any of the many climbs along the course, including the last major one before the end, which I walked up the last time I tried to ride it. Yay!

    My legs are toast.

You should probably get that in writing.

I know. I think in the 10 months I've been in here full time I've gotten less than 5 compliments.

I just sent my colleague a proofread of one of her book projects. It's the last proofread I need to do this season (finally!).

The PDF has 3,185 comments, and I sent it to her with a 1,000-word e-mail.

I hope she doesn't hate me.

I survived Monday. It was a hell of a day. Didn't feel well for most of it. Something something Commies. I didn't kill anyone. That's a relief.

Well then you FAILED Monday! I am happy to report 3 babies sacrificed to satan, four orphans slapped and steps taken to have the antichrist born were completed just yesterday here at my mundane desk job.

    Today should be better.

  16. Finally built a LiveISO of Ubuntu such that I can PXE boot it and SSH in using a custom set of credentials. Seriously took longer than it should have to figure out how to do it.
Now to test portability and scalability (will it work on other servers, and if so, how many at once?)

I'm about 60% caught up with my workload after the events of the last couple weeks. I'm pretty happy about that.

I did an 82km ride on Saturday. I rode it despite having a nasty head cold.

At km15 things started to go badly. I hit hill after hill just as my head started to fill with massive amounts of snot. There where a few hills where I felt like Dennis Weaver in an overheating car, red lights flashing and a semi-trailer about run him off the road. This despite the lightning, rain and hail.

By the time I hit the first drink station at km36, I was done. I couldn't breath. My legs, lacking in oxygen were like Jell-o. My head, full of snot, was throbbing. I was angry.

One of the support people came over to check on me and let me know that the sweep truck would be along to pick me if I wanted to bail. I mumbled something through my sinus migraine about being stuffed... She said, Wait! And came back with some pills and off she went.

20 minutes later, my headache gone and my nose relatively cleared, I jumped back on my bike and finished the ride.

The second half was some of the best riding I've done in ages. I was passing people left and right and, despite my lengthy stop finished in under 4 hours.

All thanks to some pills at just the right time.
