He won't be able to take legal action. These are from a police reports and will not be subject to libel.

    Ford really needs to go.

Wouldn't it be weird if this helps to normalize acceptance of cunnilingus?

It is the same clip as above, but they keep the camera rolling a little after he leaves... The reaction from the press is awesome.

Anyways, don't they have recall elections up there? Can't the city council impeach him? Why haven't the cops arrested him yet?

The press reaction is just amazing. I mean, really. What else can you do but laugh. Later in the day he called a press conference to apologize for being crude... he brought he wife along for support. I think this is one of the few, if not the first, times he has used her as a prop in this scandal. She looked very tired.

And no, we don't have recall elections in Ontario, the council cannot impeach him and there have been questions about just what the police can do. There does not appear to be any hard evidence... yet.

I'm not sure if this goes on in Canada, but if there are places in the US testing food stamp recipients for drugs, public officials should have to pass them too. Even to get some minimum wage job, you have to pass the test, let alone a mayor of a large city.

And I would hope the police are investigating, or you have a federal investigation that doesn't require the local police who might be biased. Drugs, possible blackmail by shady dealers, and setting up a possible hit isn't too good.

There is already an ongoing police investigation. For obvious reasons the police aren't saying anything but many of the revelations that have been happening are happening because of a related case going through the courts. The judge agreed to release some of the filings in that case and it was revealed that the police have been investigating the mayor and his associates.

As for drug testing, interestingly, the Mayor himself just requested that all members of council, including himself, be subject to tests for drugs and alcohol.

Of course, this is just a ruse to show that others also use marijuana so he can say, "Everyone does, it so stop piling on me." It's Canada. Of course most people smoke pot. This isn't about pot smoking or even drinking a few beers.

"In the face of raging, sulking, bullying men, we’re at a loss. Impoliteness is our Kryptonite.

Canadians are a principled and courageous people, sure, but had the Germans walked into our trenches at Vimy Ridge and put their feet up on the furniture, we might have just stared blankly in embarrassment until they won."

At press time, Rob Ford was still mayor. (I think) - The Globe and Mail

He will be lucky if he gets to retire. This ends with his brother reading his eulogy.

Well, at least when I get into politics, I'll know how debaucherous I can go before I get fired.

Wait, what am I talking about? I can't go into politics, I don't lie or manipulate people.
And forget about parsing words on the fly.
Half the reason I'm here is because I can get my words straight on my own time ...and the edit screen.

I guess I'll just have to be debaucherous without being an "upstanding citizen" like him.

Interesting that big players like CTV are getting into fact checking Ford. This role has largely been left to daily papers and blogs.

Just checking in on this thread...

As some of you know, the Rob Ford train continues to roll along. At this point, there are still rumours of his impending arrest but I am not counting on it. There is to be another release of court documents today (Wednesday) that are related to warrants around his associate's iPhone and iCloud accounts (apparently he was in the habit of recording their interactions).

Some are suggesting that the resignation of Federal finance minister, Jim Flaherty (a very close family friend and ally of the Fords) is related to the pending charges (needs to take a step away from the PM before the arrests).

I am not confident that this latest round will amount to anything.

The campaign for October's mayoral election is underway... the first (or many!) debates is about to take place later this month. Ford is still polling strong and is currently in contention for the win.

There is a tonne of other incidents and mockery to seen (Kimmel, this year's St. Patrick's Day drunken stupor, etc.) but all I can hope for is an end to this buffoonery.

    ADDED:

Video of Rob Ford at Toronto's St. Patrick's Day parade, the day after being filmed drunk and stumbling outside city hall (again). Interesting to see the range of cheering and booing.

The man is a populist and his spin, "Everyone makes mistakes" is getting a lot of traction.

The US made a mistake when we re-elected Bush in 2004. Let's hope that Toronto is a little smarter than we were.

Do we have a Rob Ford theme song thread yet?

Seriously, the most entertaining bipedal failure factory since Marion Barry.

It's all a leftist plot. The taxpayers will decide at the polls on election day.
