I don't watch a lot of movies, or TV for that matter, so my input is going to be limited. I'll try not include any spoilers; reviews & plot summaries abound on the internet.

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), directed by Stanley Kubrick. I find it interesting that Arthur C. Clarke wrote the novel 2001 based on the screenplay after the movie was released, apparantly in response to the large number of people who didn't understand the movie. I've known some people who were quite smug because they 'got' the movie; when pressed it turned out they actually saw the movie well after it & the book were released. My theory is only a handful of people involved in writing the screenplay and filming the movie actually knew what the hell 2001 was about.

Memento (2000), directed by Christopher Nolan. The reverse chronological order isn't easy to follow. There are some parts of this movie that just didn't make sense, I need to see it again.

Irreversible (2002), directed by Gaspar Noe. A French film where the story is presented in reverse chronological order. I found the movie more watchable as the manic pace slowed down. Warning: This film includes a brutal rape scene with graphic physical violence.

My roommate wanted to share a movie he rented from the library as he wanted to discuss it. I was excited because it was in the Criterion Collection and was looking forward to a film discussion with my roommate.

It was fucking weird and I don't even really know what the point was. I think I needed to be high to watch it.

Found out it was a joke on me by my roomie. He wanted someone else to witness the atrocity.

  5. I'm might catch some flack for this but....

Oh my god. Spirited Away!!! Ugggh. I still have NO idea what was going on. It's not because it was Japanese. DaddySquirrel didn't like it either.

I had such high hopes because I loved My Neighbor Totoro .

  7. Spirited Away is one of my favorite animated movies!
    My kids love it too.
The first things to come to mind when I saw this thread was Alejandro Jodorowsky's
El Topo (1970) and The Holy Mountain (1973) which both warped my young brain.
It's been a while since I've seen them so they might be a little dated in the weird department.

I liked Spirited Away, too, but it has some unnerving qualities.

    Santa Sangre (1989).

Not just the weirdest -- it was also by far the least enjoyable movie I have ever watched all the way through.

Okay, I'm sorry, but I seriously had on idea what the hell The NeverEnding Story was about. Maybe it was because I was young when I watched it, but it was way too confusing. Minority Report was also pretty strange, but awesome.

Minority Report wasn't weird, just bad.
