It's Stir-Crazy Saturday... know what that means?
If I wake up with no fever tomorrow (and get at least three papers done today), it'll be Road-Trip Sunday!
I'm thinking Houston this time. The 18-mile bridge to Baton Rouge is annoying.
And I need a stupid light bulb from IKEA. Plus, they have a Zagat-rated Pho restaurant in Houston.
    And Whole Foods.

    Not even joking.

Oh man, I feel sorry for you suckers who live in places without hippie food co-ops.

  4. We have a co-op. It's fantastic, but it's a bit expensive for my budget and also a bit out of my 'normal' way to get to, so I don't go there as often as I'd like.

Here, Whole Foods is way more expensive than our hippie co-op, as is the store that is like a local Whole Foods.

Well, you see, there are a couple of things at play here. 1) I'm good at hiding it/pretending, and 2) Here I'm referring to my self-esteem regarding my career/work.

    But thanks, nonetheless. :)

C'mon. Give yourself some credit on the adorableness.

In other news, I had coffee with madre mio in a local coffehovel. It is a spring-like day so people are out and about. This includes most of the 10 year-old population of town, all of whom had also gathered in the coffeehovel. They were nattering away excitedly and without stopping. Turns out that the pitch range of their voices entirely cancelled those of my mother's voice. It was quite pleasant.

I wish I could wear heels more often. Husband hates when I wear them (Jeez, I'm only 5' 9"). Tall women are gorgeous, I can't see why he doesn't think so.

Of course tall women are gorgeous -- I'm married to one, and I'm extremely tall myself.

However, I hate, loathe, despise high heel shoes. It's pretty much like foot binding. They look intensely uncomfortable and hideously unattractive, pretty much no matter what.

American women are taught to shove their feet into shoes much too small for them, as a form of self-torture or self-mutilation.

And spike heels do damage to floors and pavements. It is almost physically painful to see wooden parquet floors in historic buildings, ruined with all those little dents.

I strongly, strongly, strongly prefer women in sensible shoes.

    My rule about tall women:

The taller she is, the better I think she dances. The better she dances, the taller I think she is.

I've had the opposite problem, I'm average to short for a guy (5'7") and I've had women who wouldn't wear heels because it made them taller than me and thought I would be uncomfortable with that. I'm not, and love a woman in heels.

Yes, they can damage floors. No argument there. I don't wear them where that is a possibility. And, I suppose they can be uncomfortable for a lot of people, but I don't find them uncomfortable at all, at least the ones I have. And, I love, love to rock them on the dance floor!

Crisis! Our dog brought a bloody, but live, opossum into the house tonight.

(Don't laugh. We are relatively new to the dog-owner thing. This hasn't happened before.)

We managed to get the opossum outside without touching it. Afterward, my daughter's boyfriend scrubbed the floor where it sat.

Opossums are filthy creatures that carry all kinds of diseases. At my daughter's insistence, I took the dog to the 24-hour veterinarian. The dog is fine, and all her vaccinations were already up to date.

What kind of dog? Adult opossum?

How did it get inside, doggie door?

That is a bit crazy, glad no real damage was done to the dog, home, or anyone/thing else. That could've gotten ugly.
