Yep, @ralphie250 you gotta have breakfast.
Most important meal of the day.

I recommend something with protein, that will fill you up...and the protein lasts longer.

You may be drinking too much coffee, that does affect the body...a good breakfast would compensate.

Wheat bread would be better than white...would fill you up more too. (I think tastes better too)

Personally, I'd eat my biggest meal at lunch...not dinner.
You'll burn it off throughout the day.
You may be eating too much volume at Dinner. (remember, you're starting to relax, wind down)

    This is my "good days"
1 or 2 coffees in the morn. (around 7)
A healthy breakfast sandwich (egg white, trim ham, light cheese and healthy English muffin)
For lunch at 11, At subway around I get a Cold Cut Combo (turkey based) foot-long, but I only eat half (save the other half for later) And a water.
The sandwich is Oat bread, light mayo, spinach (not lettuce), onion, green peppers, olives, tomatoes and light vinegar dressing)
During my break at 4, I eat the other half and have a tea. (caffeinated)
When I get home (around 7) I'll have a snack or light dinner, with red wine.

My problem is when I have a heavy dinner, because I'm exhausted and stressed.
But I try to keep my meal intervals to 4 hours.
Otherwise, I start to be hungry and overeat.

And now that it's warming up, I'm starting biking.
Not speed biking...just a nice relaxing ride on a street bike with big tires. (if you try it, you'll need big ones too, they pop easy with large men)
Starting the gym again on the weekend days...and on Wed.

@ralphie250 correct me if I'm wrong, looking at your posts

    Current pattern:
    • Early Morning: 5:30am
    • Lots of coffee, no breakfast.
    • Very Light lunch at noon, water
    • Very Light snack at break (around 3)
    • Very heavy dinner after 8
    • Bed after 11
Now I have a friend/associate who's your size/frame...he's having the same difficulties too.
And he has the same pattern that you've noted.
You may not be sleeping enough too.
Your coffee may be dehydrating you.

How about this? (and you correct me if I'm wrong...and anyone else too)
    Suggested Pattern:
    • Wake at 6
    • 2 coffees, decent breakfast (something with protein & carb)
    • Water throughout the day (this will hydrate you...and keep you awake too; not much just when you're thirsty)
    • Heavier lunch, something with veggies too.
    • Decent snack at break. (something more than a peanut butter sandwich)
    • Light dinner, around 6-7
    • Bed around 10 (this will give you 8 hours...yes, put yourself in bed, turn out most lights, remember to turn TV off going to sleep)
The water, I always make sure to have a nice glass...cool water...tastes better & refreshing. (wets my whistle)
The water helps with appetite, energy level, food processing...and keeping healthy. (just don't force it, like some suggest, just keep it by you)

BTW...I have to pound myself in the head to remember this pattern too, it's easy to eat when I'm stressed or tired.
I need to lose 30 lbs. My family has heart issue history. So it's something to be concerned with.
But I also know that if I stay big, it will affect my joints too. (I'm already feeling it...and I've seen my Uncle's impact with age...he's bigger)

But when I'm good and I exercise some in the week...I lose and firm decently.
    It's just when I stress...I forget or I indulge.
As with anyone, I'm my own worst enemy.

Today I had a great lunch.
Greek salad, italian wedding soup and a nice sized roasted chicken breast (with water) 8 bucks.

These days, I'm eating for breakfast Jimmy Dean's Delights breakfast sandwiches.
It's their "healthy" version...Wheat english muffin, turkey sausage, egg white, light cheese.
Not the best, but I don't have time to make things in the morn...this takes 2 mins to nuke and I can run out the door with it, eat while driving.
CostCo has a box of 12 for $10 (great deal, lasts for 2 weeks)
    On weekends, I eat homemade.

The biggest problem I've had (5'9", 235#) and have seen in others is we want to see immediate results. That's not going to happen. Be realistic--It took years to put on the extra weight, and it's going to take time to lose it.

Don't concentrate too much on what the scale reads, that can actually be depressing. First & foremost think about how you feel. How your clothes fit.

Several people have mentioned almonds as a snack, and that's good advice. Almonds are filling and and nutritious (good source of calcium for one).

If you & your wife can get in the habit of cooking balanced dinners, you could try having leftovers for lunch. I don't know how much time you get for lunch, or if you have a decent lunchroom. If sandwiches are all you have time for, try to include some veggies that you can add to the sandwich (lettuce, spinach, tomatoe, onion, etc.).

The thing is you can do little things to eat healthier. Individually they don't seem like much, but cumulatively they will help.

Last but certainly not least: Congrats on the "...wife was waiting on Me naked in da bed...." ;)

Here's the big problem with your Wendy's for dinner: 1,535 calories, 219g carbohydrate, 55g fat, 48g protein, 1,995g sodium, and only 13g of fiber. That's 3/4ths of your daily calorie intake (assuming 2000 cals a day) right there in a single meal that is very, very late in the day.

I really recommend you start using MyFitnessPal. It'll give you a better sense of how your food choices are part of the problem.

I make breakfast the biggest meal of the day, and either skip dinner, or eat just a little bit to be polite.

I always assumed that samiches were OK for you. But im seeing not so much. Is celery and peanut butter OK or is celery and pimento cheese better?

Also - what exactly do you put in your coffee? Creamer? Sugar? Both? Those things add up.

What about celery or other veggies with hummus? Or light laughing cow cheese wedge?

I used to use half-n-half in my coffee.

Since I have given up dairy, I drink coffee black.

As a result, I drink a lot less coffee.

I think I was using coffee as a vehicle for drinking cream.

Creamer. Either half and half, milk or power creamer. Depending on where I get coffee. What is hummis?

Hummus is a dip made from ground up chick peas and is great on veggies. You can make your own or buy ready to eat containers. I like Sabra brand best and find it near the deli at Kroger and Walmart.

Hummus is great. If you choose to eat peanut butter, make sure it is unsweetened.

  18. Yes you need to put something in the energy tank in the morning (breakfast). So many different cereals out there - some in bar form - always read whats in them.
Fruit is good for you - and didnt your mum tell you to eat your greens? Try fresh fruit juice with water for a flavoured and healthy drink.
Do you not put any salad in your sarnies? I quite like multigrain bread as it has texture and flavour.
