And this is why I'm against the death penalty as it stands. It's done solely to make society feel better yet we pussyfoot around the killing part.

That's the thing. The death penalty isn't necessary.

Perhaps, but it gives God-fearin', NASCAR-watchin', porkrind-chompin' Real 'Mericans a warm 'n fuzzy. That's what government does: provide warm 'n fuzzies to the citizenry.

Whether or not it is necessary is a purely philosophical debate. Heh, it's way up there with whether or not war is a good idea or if God kills a kitten every time you masturbate.

    War is a fantastic idea.
    God does kill kittens.

Well, yeah. It would be perfect if it were Christian.

I'm not sure if you're being partly serious at all.

With that comparison, you'd have to suggest that it also makes sense to start a war against a country already completely occupied/colonized. That would be brutal and unnecessary, possibly even genocidal. It doesn't work as a comparison.

It's not purely a philosophical debate at all. It's something that's practiced in some places and abolished in others. There are serious sociological and legal aspects as well.
