This looked like a nice thread to start this new section off. Here is my contribution touting the awe inspiring power of 64k memory:

my main question is: why is smiling staring at the small grainy screen when there are two girls in the background he could talking to?

If the man faced the two girls, the portrayed 'effect' of owning a Commodore 64 would be amusingly reversed. No, it doesn't attract women - yes, you could be lounging with them by the pool, but no, you're actually all alone and it's going to stay that way. Buy a Commodore 64, you'll be able to pine for female companionship from afar and sigh to yourself while sipping a cocktail beside this killjoy machine.

very good points, I was thinking as well if you were investing that kind of serious funds for that system you probably were sitting by the pool alone. Got to love how 'portable' those machines are and they definitely were for the era.
Stats taken from wikipedia: it weighed 23 lbs, and was released in 1984 for $995.
    killer graphics - VIC-II (320 x 200, 16 colors, sprites, raster interrupt)
here is the CPU - MOS Technology 6510
    @ 1.02 MHz (NTSC version)
    @ 0.985 MHz (PAL version)

that was interesting to read. Thanks for the contribution, and giving me cause to dig up the specs on that piece of computing history!

most of my further contributions here would be of the audio kind, which would be fine in my opinion. I do have a problem with so much blatant advertising for my site though so I will not do that.
So I shall just enjoy the visual 'buy me now' appeals from the past.
