A grand conspiracy? No. A pissed off teenager getting more attention than she deserved? Most likely.

Principles are cool. Take a stand.

I've been kicked out of class for calling a teacher on his bullshit. I went to the vice-principal's office and had to explain my actions. That was the end of it.

Social media and the media media amplifying what was a simple classroom altercation and making it more than it is is what's making me itchy about all of this.

    Mountain ≠ molehill

Based on a selective interpretation of a recent poll, Bill O'Reilly declares victory on the War on Christmas!

    Southern Jews do exist.
Didn't you watch Driving Miss Daisy or listened to Kinky Friedman?
There are actually pretty strong pockets of Jews all over the south (though not so much in the really small towns anymore).

A couple of months ago I received an advertising mailing from the National Audubon Society. They offered five different cards: "Season's Greetings" Let it Snow!" "A Holiday Wish" "Peace is always beautiful." and "Joy"

Apparently the Audubons didn't want to give the offense that some folks would take even if Christmas were to be merely mentioned as a part of the larger mix.

I know that. I was referring to the chances of them being members of certain lodges. Namely lodges where you have to nominated by a member of the lodge.

I'm about as generic of white guy as anyone can be, even my real life name. My best friend joined a long established lodge, very well known. He told me the lodge would never have any persons of color or Jews because no one in the lodge would dare nominate one for membership. Now two weird things: He also said that he would never risk his standing by nominating me because of my anti-religion beliefs (not an issue, I'm not a joiner by my nature), and he was actually raised in a half-Jewish home (his adoptive father was Jewish, his adoptive mother wasn't).

Well, yes, but perhaps some are trying to turn it into an "unmentionable"?

Any organization that would have such low standards as to accept me as a member is one that I wouldn't want to be associated with.;)

There aren't many holy days this time of year. Also, what do you expect from an organization that values science and education? Angels and mangers?

Look, I know most Americans are Christians, but I don't see this as an organization that needs to accommodate for Christmas specifically.

They already have the Christmas Bird Count. What more do they need?

^^^^ Usually attributed to Groucho Marx, but while he is well known for the saying I doubt that he was the first person to say it.

I agree, but neither do I see a reason not to.

Sorry, I guess I missed that cardinal aspect.;)

"What is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow?"

I'll tie the attempt at humo(u)r to Christmas--We plan to watch The Life of Brian over the Christmas holidays. Yes, I know that the quote is from a different movie.

Yes, it is that time of year again!

But with a new Grinch replacing Bill O'Reilly.
