    I see something similar quite frequently--Old people who are clearly trying to reach items higher on the shelves but can't, and perfectly healthy people walk right past them. I make it point to ask if I can help them.

    The other one is how deep a lot of the shelves are so that the things in the back can't be reached.
    I had to help folks all the time to get things in the back on the bottom shelves because they really didn't want to get down on their knees.

    I was the "crane" during the holidays, when I went shopping with my mom...Crane for her...
    and several older ladies asked for my assistance too.
    Glad to do it.

    Amazing how a small act can be a big help.
    Hey, my mom fed me enough to grow to be a crane and lift. Why not make use of it...for others too.

    My teacher wife got a good laugh from that ^.

    Many of the older folks I help seem surprised that a middleaged+ white guy--considering where we live--is polite and willing to help. I don't know if karma is real, but I feel good helping them regardless.

    We see a lot people using elec scooters who aren't able reach many items.

    It's amazing what a simple "It was my pleasure, ma'am/sir." can do to brighten someones day.
