Well, the NFL Combine leading up to the NFL Draft started this week, so I guess it is time to start a new thread...

    I found this interesting:

[Report]: Eagles to trade four draft picks to Jets for Mariota | Philadelphia

As a Ducks fan who has no strong rooting interest in the NFC East, I'd kind of like to see Chip and Mariota together again. I really want Mariota to do well in the NFL, but I think he has to land in the right system, with the right team, for that to happen. If anybody can give him the advantage of that, it may be the Eagles. Kelly knows him well, they have speed at RB and WR, and a system where he can get the ball out quickly. We'll see if it happens (that is a ton to give up for him, if he's still there at #6), but it is fun to think about.

My pro team, the Bucs, are probably still going to be fairly bad for at least another year. And they will probably end up with Jameis Winston, who I don't care for at all. I think he has the physical skills to succeed, and all he's done is win, I just don't like everything that has gone on off the field, nor how he's handled himself. Ideally some team will come out of left field with a huge trade offer and the Bucs end up with a bunch of picks instead of him. But that's unlikely.

Anyway, if you have any thoughts on the Combine or Draft, post up! :)

I have no exact thoughts now, just a wish list for the Texans.

Generally speaking in 2015 I would like to see:

The scouting staff and Rick Smith return to what they were able to do in 2010, 2011, & 2012--
Find & sign really good players that flew under the radar.

Clowney healthy and focused on being a top NFL player.

Add another top defensive lineman, or two, capable of rushing the QB. The Texans will need a great defense if they again end up starting a questionable QB.

Some help in the defensive backfield.

Sign a QB worthy of being a starter....which I don't see happening. I'm pretty sure that OB will give Ryan Mallet more chances than he deserves to win the starting job. Which will be fine if RM is capable. I can see RM starting, with Case Keenum #2 (possibly Ryan Fitzpatrick #2, but CK looked good in the last two games of 2014), Savage or RF #3 if the Texans decide to carry a 3rd QB on the roster.

The Reavens released Jacoby Jones a couple of days ago, and apparantly he hasn't yet been signed by another team. Even with his drop in production last year, he'll most likely land a job. This guy really POd a lot of Texans fans when he didn't step up when Andre Johnson got hurt, but did a very good job for the Ravens after the Texans released him. But it happens, some players need a kick in the ass to wake up.

I wonder what Suh is going to do.

It appears that Andre Johnson will most likely be leaving the Texans after 12 seasons. The Texans wanted to reduce his playing time and his salary. He and his agent have been given permission to seek a trade, and if one isn't worked out he'll be cut for free agency.

AJ isn't as fast as he used to be, and certainly doesn't/can't go all out on every play, esp when the situation calls for a running play. There were times last year when he made little effort to "sell" the idea that they might pass. He feels that he can still start & be a primary receiver. That is debateable. I can see a contending team signing him, for less money since he's a 'twilight' player, for use in passing plays, probably as a decoy as often as the 1st receiver.

I wish Andre Johnson all the best. If he does well, I hope that it is for a NFC contender (but not the dallas cowgirls, that would suck) with a real chance to make the SB. I don't want to see him with an AFC team that could negatively affect the Texans PO chances.

Yet another edit--One of the local sports announcers was listing AJ's impressive stats. He commented that those stats are even more impressive given that they were accomplished under some not-so-great QBs. He didn't name the QBs, but I will: David Carr & Matt Shaub, and to a lesser extent Case Keenum & Ryan Fitzpatrick.

  11. Thats probably confirmation that Harvin is on his way. Mixed feelings about that. The guy obviously has maturity issues, but if someone could get the best out of him he would be a hell of a player.

    Decker, Marshall, Kerley is decent
Amaro has shown a lot of promise
Bilal Powell and Chris Ivory is as good as almost anyone.

Jets have have to stop making excuses for the QB, stop blaming the lack of weapons around him. I would love to see Geno turn things around, but I dont have much faith. I still think the best thing we could do is get a solid veteran like Matt Moore or Jason Campbell and roll the dice in the 3rd/4th round on a pure prospect. Geno has heart and passion, but he just doesnt see the game fast enough.

Yeah, I think you are correct about Harvin being gone.

I just don't see the Jets being able to compete in that division this year, regardless. Pats are SB champs and likely to be a 10-12 win team again. Buffalo was 9-7 and should be better. Miami had twice the wins the Jets did, and are looking to sign Suh (we'll see). I'll be interested to see where the Jets go with their #1 pick, whether someone like Mariota will fall that far, if they trade down, or what.

I really hope Mariota doesn't go that low :(

And Lynch is expected to return to Seattle. Phew.

  14. Mariota doesnt excite me. Im not saying he is another Tebow, but he plays in a way that typically doesnt adapt so well to pro football. There is no way Jameis Winston is still around for us (not that i would necessarily want him either, great prospect but if he can get himself in so much trouble at school whats he going to be like when hes a millionaire?)

Biggest needs for us are secondary and O Line (assuming a top QB isnt there, and i think there is one guy in the draft and he will go to bucs im pretty sure).

I'm a Ducks fan, and want Mariota to succeed. I think he seems like a high character person, and he has some great physical skills. But I also think he'll need an adjustment period and won't be able to step right in and be a good starting QB in the NFL. Unfortunately, with the teams picking in the area he'll likely go, I don't see that happening. I'd hate to see him get ruined and never have a fair shake.

Ironically, I'm a Tampa fan, and am likely going to end up having to root for Jameis to get his head on straight. My confidence level on that isn't high.

Yup, 6 years and $114M, with $60M guaranteed supposedly.

  17. Yeah, he seems like a good kid. But so is Tim Tebow.

You can never really tell how somebody is going to adapt, there are very few prospects like Andrew Luck. He may have the right stuff i just think its a gamble and with our QB position we need some stability before we gamble. If we had matt moore... Hell even chad henne... Then id be less worried about drafting a "college style" college qb that high.
