While I am enjoying my Galaxy Nexus as a stopgap phone, I can't help but fangirl out every time I see an article on the Galaxy S6.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Has the Best Smartphone Display So Far

Interestingly, the S6 will not have an easily removable battery (while you can remove the battery on the S6, you have to take the entire phone apart to do so, from the looks of it), nor will it have expandable memory.

My Nexus 5 has neither expandable memory nor a removable battery. I don't find either to be any great impediment.

I used to worry about removable batteries but I've come to the realization that I'm going to replace my phones long before the battery wears out anyway. It's not really an issue.

Yeah, I've never hot swapped, so it's not a concern for me. I'm going to have to replace the battery in my Nexus 7 (2012) here soon, and I will have to take it apart to do so. I'm not concerned. So long as I don't need a heat gun to get it done, I'm fine with taking my phone apart to replace parts should it prove necessary, and if I don't have a warranty to void.

The memory is something I am fine with now. I have a lot of cloud storage at my disposal and I swap media off and on my Nexus 7 and my Galaxy Nexus without issue. I anticipate a 32GB phone will be fine given that that is the case. I'll just have to remember to delete my photos off of my device at intervals.

So, I was totally spoiled by my S4's performance, and the Nexus has proved to be frustratingly slow to respond at times. Lo and behold, the S6 rolls out, and Verizon promptly tempts me with the option to upgrade--so long as I consent to instead pay for my phone via their new Edge program. I did the math. In the end, it works out to me paying the same amount of money without paying $200-300 upfront.

My S6 will be here on Thursday. I got the 64GB model so I'll pretty much never run out of space. I've gotten used to only having 32GB at my disposal with the Nexus, and I've already modified my phone usage to avail myself of streaming services. Also, Google Play Music is fantastic for managing music files with limited space.

I promptly also ordered a new case and will be signing up for Squaretrade (thanks to @Borla for the rec--it saves me $6/mo!).

So smooth, so seamless, so...unf. My S6 and I will be in my bunk.

I got about 7 hours of heavy use out of the S6 before it hit 15%, at which point Battery Saver kicks in. It's on the fast charger now, and we'll see how long it takes.

    Okay, okay. That's fair.

But how else are you going to test out that Super AMOLED screen to the best of its ability?

Other than 720p videos of people fucking each other?

    I honestly don't know.

I just hope you have a screen protector.

  12. Have a blackberry (from my job)
    Samsung S5 (my own)

The problem is for years I only ever had my work phone, so nobody ever texts me or calls me on my actual own phone, so I pretty much only use it as a mobile internet device
Always liked Blackberry's because of the real keypad. I dont really use a lot of apps (because what can an app do that a web browser can't take you to really)

    Always.

Went out on the town last night and then to a get-together, didn't make it home until 7am. I didn't bother to plug in the phone at all. It was still at 80% when we got home.

Welcome me to the 21st century. I picked up my first smartphone over the weekend and got a network extender to create a hot spot in my home (where they said it couldn't be done).

Any suggestions on what to do with a used Tracfone? It has 5 months and 1200 minutes on it. I'd love to donate it to a shelter or such (after deleting my contacts). I can't seem to find a way to do that.

I'm on my second smart phone (would've kept the 1st one, but the battery life totally sucked even when the phone was used very lightly), and still don't use to its full potential.

We have a bag full of old CPs, some ours, some from relatives. I'd love to donate them to a good cause. I'm not sure about all of them, but a couple of the flip phones are perfectly fine for calling & texting and still have a decent/functional battery life.

Call your local DV shelter. They usually want phones.

Since I had to look it up, DV = Domestic Violence.

I wonder if plain flip phones can be set up for emergency & limited use only? Like the phones that some parents give their kids.

Yes. They generally want any and all phones you can give them. They have special deals set up with cell providers to use these used phones as emergency phones.

To sorta answer my own question, this is the answer.
Shelters don't want phones directly because the gps function can be used for stalking. Best Buy, verizon and such will wipe them and turn them into phones that can be used for emergencies.

Some do. Our local shelter collects them for themselves.
