You should check out some of Maddin's other films: Tales From the Gimli Hospital and Archangel for starters.

    Maddin is a Canadian legend.

A collaboration between Guy Maddin & David Lynch would be interesting.

Mentioning David Lynch, Mulholland Drive is a strange film, although not that weird on the Lynch Weird-O-Meter.

Hands down, The Forbidden Zone. Filmed with a budget of literally like $500 in the 70's, and partially in black and white, forcing yourself to watch this intellectually-numbing, vaguely-horrifying, sometimes accidentally-racist, sexually-depraved and perverse, absolutely bizarre, painfully juvenile, twisted, absolutely vile musical piece of work is akin to rubbing a piece of pumice rock against your brain (and possibly genitals) for the duration. Your eye will twitch. Your brain will twitch. It's that bad, and it's that... I can't even describe it. NEVER watch it on drugs. So far-out in left field. I haven't seen it in 5-6 years, and I literally still cringe at the thought of it.

Blue Velvet, yet another David Lynch flick. Very strange. Really want to see Brazil!

I've seen a lot of movies but one of the ones that freaked me out the most was shown at a movie festival of silent movies.
It was supposed to be a celebration of modern music and old film with a man playing a Moog synthesizer as the silent movies played.

We watched Charlie Chaplin and everyone was having a great time then they put on Un Chien Andalou.

If you haven't seen this movie I recommend researching it ahead of time and not going to see it blind.
Luis Bunuel and Salvador Dali may have made it in 1929 but I suspect it outcreeps most modern horror movies.
Especially in a room full of people who had no idea it was coming and the only sound is eerie Moog notes climbing up your neck.
The guy playing that thing was really getting into it.

We ran out of the auditorium after it was over.

I live in the weirdest movie I've known...
If you don't believe me, have me tell you a story or two...the odds are profound and the situations are surreal.

That would be pre-code days still so they could do quite a bit more with content.
edit: Wikipedia does say this was filmed and released in France, but the code enforcement people in the US no doubt said a fast "no" to this film if anyone discussed showing it on screens in the States not many years after it came out.

I caught just a brief part of a movie, don't know the title, maybe y'all do. I think it was a French film, low budget, in which Johm Malkovich was possibly a prisoner having dinner with his captors. Human body parts were hanging on the kitchen wall.

Weirdest film I've ever seen? Hands down- Tetsuo: The Iron Man. 1989 (had to google the date) Don't know who directed. It's Japanese and it's beyond odd. Basically it's about a normal guy who runs over a freak by accident. The freak has seemingly spent most of his life inserting pieces of metal into his body. I guess the guy thought he killed the freak and dumps his body. After seeing it I'm still not clear if the metal inserting freak was killed in the accident. Anyway after the accident for some unknown reason the normal guys starts turning himself into walking metal scrape yard. Why? No freaking idea. I have no idea what this movie was meant to convey or even what it tries to make a statement about. I got the feeling the director is making a point about something but what that something was went right over head.

To be honest I've seen enough slasher movies that the eyeball was really not the worst part.
The movie as a whole has so many creepy and just overwhelming images that it's really difficult to impart them all.

Eyeball stuff drives m crazy because years ago I was in a car accident. Both my inner and outer eyelids on my left eye where severed and I got to watch them sew them up. Since then eyeball stuff is too much.

On the subject of bizarre acts in movies......I have never seen this movie, or even a copy of it, but the descriptions make it sound very disturbing:

Salo O Le Centoventi Giornate Di Sodoma
Salo, or The 120 Days of Sodom

An italian film based, sort of, on the work by Marquis de Sade. Apparently it shows BDSM, some of it gross, without any erotica or emotion.
