Did you know that Winston Churchill, widely respected for his actions as Prime Minister of Great Britain during WWII, was much hated for sending in military troops to break the coal miners strike in 1926?

My wife's paternal grandfather was a coal miner and later an official with the coal board, and her father also worked in the coal mines.

    -------------------------------------
WC was also known for his acidic wit.

Mr. Churchill, if you were my husband I would poison your tea.
Madame, if you were my wife I would drink it.

    Madame, you are ugly.
    Mr. Churchill, you're drunk.
Yes, but in the morning I will be sober.

Did you know that, in his final illness, Henry Clay insisted (at great inconvenience to his family) that he be taken from Kentucky to Washington DC?

When he died, he wanted a funeral procession all the way from Washington to Lexington, lined with thousands of his supporters and admirers.

    Which is exactly what happened.

What's more, his tomb, on a hilltop, is the base of a 120-foot-tall Corinthian column, topped with a colossal statue of Clay. It's part of the Lexington skyline.

It sounds as though Henry Clay took self-importance to a new level. Did Clay also have his casket encased in the purest gold available in 1852?

He was thought to be a great man, but he had feet of Clay.

Did you know in the video for "Come on Eileen" (Dexys Midnight Runners), no one was wearing underwear? I don't remember if it was the director or the lead singer that made that call, but it was supposed to be "more authentic."

Did you know fennec foxes have hairy paws, to help with walking across hot desert sand? Their large ears (which can be half the length of their body) radiate body heat, which also helps keep them cool.

Did you know giraffes are the tallest land mammals and can run up to 35 mph? Female giraffes are pregnant for 13-15 months, and baby giraffes are welcomed into the world by dropping over five feet to the ground.

Did you know that Leo Fender (RIP, 08/10/09--03/21/91 ), one of the early innovators in solid body electric guitars, pick-ups, and amplifiers, did not play guitar?

Leo was the man behind the development of the Telecaster, Stratocaster, & Precision bass, just to name a few.

okay, here it is from Wikipedia: Henry Clay, Sr. was an American lawyer, politician, and skilled orator who represented Kentucky in both the United States Senate and House of Representatives

    1777 - 1852, he's from way back.

Did you know that most people remember their first kiss better than losing their virginity? Kissing also causes a surge of dopamine and oxytocin.

Did you know that the protagonists of World War I, which caused the death of millions, were cousins and often played together as children?
Kaiser Wilhelm and King George of England were first cousins.
King George and Tsar Nicholas II were also first cousins.
Wilhelm and Nicholas were more distant but still related cousins.
