Discussion in 'Tilted Gear' started by martian, Aug 6, 2015.

  1. I'm actually enjoying Windows 10. Made a few things easier for my day to day actually.

Apparently being a few eons behind on updates means no windows 10 upgrade update icon in the taskbar. Debating how far to go with the updates, already passing on things like explorer 11.

Windows 10 doesn't have Explorer--it's now called Edge. I haven't tried it because everything I do is integrated into Chrome.

I saw that. I have opened Explorer maybe 5 times in 6 years and that was when forced by a site and under protest. Opera and Firefox have handled all of my web browsing for a long time now.

I just upgraded yesterday. I don't find it all that exciting yet. I'm a little irritated that it hid some of my old programs and I had to go hunting. They weren't even listed in the Apps. I'm not ready to pay for a subscription to Word 360 when I have had older versions for several years at a time. Just more money mongering IMHO. I don't find it as clean as Windows 8.1. I may have kinder feelings for 8.1 though because I have a touchscreen. I still may revert back. We shall see.

That's kind of a silly thing to say. I use OS X professionally. The upgrade to Mavericks caused me far more problems than the upgrade to Windows 10. So did the upgrade to Lion.

Elitism over your preferred brand of personal computer is slightly ridiculous, I think.

I skipped Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks, and went direct from Snow Leopard to Yosemite, which came on my new Mini, and has been trouble free, so far, except that I had to upgrade FilemakerPro to a new version.
Everything else seems to work well on either 10.6.8 or 10.10.4
Sorry, I was just making an aside comment. I apologize for the threadjack.

Just saw this elsewhere, already decided to pass on upgrading Windows for now. I am all legal these days but have ran a program or two over the years.

no need to upgrade yet, 8.1 is just fine...mostly just use it in non-tablet mode.
    I've always been a slow adapter...don't want to be anyone's guinea-pig.

I upgraded my Win7 to 10 last week but I havent really done anything on it yet. My son though has been playing a game on it like he had in Win7 so at least that isnt broken. I do like the combined Win7 and 8 feel to it.

Microsoft has a trend over the past 15 years starting with ME. They had a horrible version of an OS starting with ME(Millenium) then came out with XP..... next was Vista the crap that it was then 7 came out.... lastly they had 8 (which shouldnt have the same features/setup as a no touchscreen) and now 10! :)

For the few minutes that I played with Edge, it was actually quite nice for a Microsoft browser!

Say it aint so.....say it aint so.....dont go back to 8.1 !!!!

Everyone in my office is getting a new Surface Pro with a docking station over the next few days as we transition our out-source network management. It will only have Win 8+

I moved my home PC to Win 10. It's mostly fine with a few issues I'm still working through.

Photoshop Elements 12 croaked, there were some registry edit fixes on the internet; but I opted to upgrade to Elements13, instead.

Screensaver functions seem broken. I'd like my displays to power down after 5 min of no usage; but that doesn't seem to work even though I can find the settings.

Still in the process of upgrading drivers and such, hopefully one of them will resolve things.

Does Excel for PC under Windows 10 have the little arrows in the scroll bars? they're no longer there in the latest (Yosemite) version of Mac OS.
They are really important to the way I work with large spreadsheets. Important enough that I would consider using Win10 on my Mac to get those helpful little arrows back.
