My christell ball prediction  :p:

    The Panthers by 10 (24-14), maybe 13 points (27-14).

What will keep the game interesting is the Panthers lead won't be "safe" until late in the 4rd quarter as the Broncos run out of time. The Panthers will get a turnover, probably an interception of a desperation pass, with about five minutes left in the game. The resulting TD or FG, combined with the time ran off the game clock, will give give them enough cushion to play prevent defense which will allow the Broncos to move the ball but use up the clock in the process, and not score.

On paper a score of 27-14 would look like a big win (any SB win is big!), but it wouldn't be indicative of just how hard fought the game was.

Keep in mind the above ^ prediction could shift to the Broncos if their D can help the O get some much needed points off turnovers. But I can see Newton burning the Broncos with his running skills.

I could see your final score prediction being fairly accurate. I do not think it'll be a high scoring game, I think the winning team will be in the 20s, barring a kick return/defensive TD or two.

I will be rooting for the Broncos, mainly for Peyton. But I think Carolina will win, and I won't be terribly upset if they do. I'll be sad if Peyton has a poor game, but that's about it.

I think that most people, myself included, want Manning to play well, even if it's a losing effort. I've made fun of his habit of pouting, but that's just his look when his team is losing (hell, I'd probably be on the sideline breaking things).

One thing not to overlook is the Panthers have a good defense. If they harass and pound on Peyton, the Panthers offense could be the one benefiting from points off turnovers.

Oh well, there are many factors that could come into play. If the games were totally predictable (I stand by mine as a general prediction), we wouldn't watch them :D.

  5. The SB will be BFF vs BF. I don't know where my loyalties will end up... Probably Peyton. Bros before .....something.

    Cam sure is pretty though.

Per some reports, the current spread is six favoring the Panthers. If I was a gambler, I'd stay out of the betting if the spread reaches over seven points.

I just saw a quick news piece on Peyton (many of you have probably seen the full interview on the NFL network). He said he welcomes the HGH investigation because there is nothing for the NFL to find (I believe him, but I also remember Lance Armstrong). Bill Cowher mentioned that Newton's longest run was for 14 yards and Peyton's was for 12 yards. Peyton joked that Cam's 14 yard run took 1.2 seconds while his 12 yard run took ten seconds; he also joked that he took so long he thought it was around 30 yards.

I've been watching spreads and over/unders a lot the last 2-3 years, even without gambling. It is insane how often they are within 2-3 points.

All those fancy buildings in Vegas didn't get there by them being wrong very often.

I would only feel comfortable betting on boxing, and I would first need to get back into my "serious boxing nut" frame of mind.

An amusing story, only mildly NFL related:

I lived in an apartment complex with some interesting neighbors. Fred was originally from Cleveland, and lived in Houston working as a sales rep for a steel company. He was a gambler, and an alcoholic (he'd bet against the Redskins if the spread looked right, but then celebrate like crazy if they won, despite losing his bet!). Lupe worked as a service tech, and also "partied hardy." He followed boxing, but not very closely.

Back in '82 Roberto Duran had a fight against a decent-but-nothing-special opponent named Kirkland Laing. At that time Duran was going through the motions, his heart was not in fighting. Laing had a good record, but he clearly didn't have the punching power and/or experience to hold off a determined Duran. My thinking was he wouldn't need to because Duran probably didn't even train for the fight.

Lupe & I discussed the fight, he totally favored Duran, I said Laing would pull off the upset. Somehow we ended up getting Fred to place our bets with his bookie in Cleveland. This was a huge favor because the guy didn't usually cover boxing matches, but he did wisely limit the odds to 3-1, instead of the official 7-1 (in favor of Duran). I put $200.00 on Laing, Lupe put $500.00 on Duran....on the honor system.

Laing easily outboxed a disinterested Duran for a split (bullshit, Laing clearly won the fight) decision win. So I stood to make an easy $600.00. The thing is Lupe didn't have the $1,500.00 he lost, so he moved out of the complex in the middle of the night (he & some of his friends literally sneaked his belongings out in the wee hours on a Sunday morning). The bookie was pissed at Fred for talking him into taking the bets (esp with no cash up front) and wouldn't pay my bet because he got burned by Lupe. Fred was pissed at Lupe for welching then skipping out. I was pissed at the bookie, said my bet had nothing to with Lupe's bet (of course he didn't see it that way), and at Lupe for costing me $600.00.

    Where will Johnny land?

5 teams desperate enough to sign Johnny Manziel | For The Win

What do you think is most likely? What do you think would be best?

I think the Cowboys are most likely, and I think it would end with very little success for him and more mediocrity on the Cowboys' part. I think the best case scenario for him would be NE, but I don't think he'd last more than 1/2-2/3 of a season there, because I don't believe he will get straight and I don't believe that organization would tolerate his off the field issues.

    1. The cowgirls. Yes, the team most likely give little johnny more than a fair chance. Two reasons: jackass jerry likes to go against the grain, & little johnny has considerable marketability in Texas--he was a "God" at TAM and there are many people here who would love to have him "come back home." The huge downside--other than the question marks about his ability to play QB at the NFL level--would be the partying. If he can't control himself many miles from "home," what's going to happen when he has to deal with the number of people wanting to 'hang' with him?

    2. The Raiders. Possibly, but Al Davis hasn't came back to life. Some questions:
Have they given up on Derek Carr?
Would they be willing to deal with little johnny's baggage for a back-up QB? I think not.

    3. The Rams. I don't know enough about their QB situation to comment other than Foles seems to be a maybe/maybe not QB.

    4. The Texans. No. O'Brien seems to be a no nonsense coach. Although the pressure to at least invite Manziel--native son & TAM God--for a tryout will be sizeable. The "partying" scenario would be huge.

    5. The Patriots. Why were they even mentioned in the linked article? There is N-F-W Belichick would tolerate little johnny. Even if Manziel lived at the Patriots training facility and isolated himself from all distractions , which of course he wouldn't do, and the NFL wouldn't allow.

  14. The Bengals are waaaaaaay more notorious for taking in "shunned" players. Don't let Belicheat look like he's the "second chance" guy.

I think Johnny might well land on the "suspended" list .

I can see RG III landing in Dallas.

That assault story contains some major question marks for me (keep in mind I am not a fan of little johnny). One comment in that story really caught my eye; IMO this speaks volumes about little johnny:

" WFAA (a Dallas TV station) reached Manziel’s father, Paul, who told the station Thursday, “We’re trying to get our son better. We’re not there yet.”"

Later today his dad said that they've tried twice to get him into rehab this week and Johnny refuses to stay. His dad said that the problem is so big he's afraid Johnny won't make it to his 24th birthday.

Whoa! If Johnny's problems are that bad, he needs to concentrate on his life, and worry about football later. Part of me hopes that Dad's comments are simply him overreacting.

Out of respect for his apparently unstable condition, I'm going to quit calling him little johnny. I think Johnny definitely got caught up the whole "Johnny Football" hype (if y'all got sick of it, imagine what it was like in Houston) , I just hope that he's able to get his shit together regardless of what happens with his NFL career.

A few minutes ago I read some really stupid comments made by Deion Sanders.

It looks like the recent incident may end up in criminal charges.

Johnny Manziel's ex-girlfriend now wants to pursue charges | Shutdown Corner - Yahoo Sports

I agree with you, this is much bigger than just being an athlete. The dude needs to get his life straight before he seriously harms someone and/or kills himself or someone else.
