I did my usual and went skiing on Superbowl Sunday.

Blue sky, powder day with no one on the lifts. The interstate was deserted on the way home. Lift operators were a bit cranky.

I missed the first quarter and I'm fine with that. I'm seriously sore for the quantity of skiing I got in.

Oh, and yay Broncos. The better they do, the more skiing I get in.

Cam definitely should've manned-up and stuck out the press conference. Part of being of a star is taking the bad with the good (on that note I saw a game where Peyton walked about five feet onto the field, and then took off for the locker room without making any attempt to congratulate the winning QB). OTOH Cam looked devastated, almost like he had retreated into another reality. I'm not going to flame him totally, most people who are that animated crash pretty hard.

Peyton did what needed to be done, namely not make too many major mistakes, and it was enough.

I'd like to know. On the second mention Peyton initially only said beer, he had to clarify that he was going to drink plenty of Budweiser.

I wonder how many kids who look up to him heard those comments. Yeah, I'm being a little snide, but I'm also being quite serious.

    Zero.

NFL players can't endorse beer or alcohol.

However, he does own a Budweiser distributorship. So you do the math. ;)

He also had clauses in his contract that paid out for getting to the SB ($2M bonus) and winning it ($2M more).

I know that the shot they had of the manning family in the suite, Eli did not look happy at all.

I noticed that as well, even commented to wife. I wonder what the deal was? Hopefully it wasn't a sibling rivalry thing.

Here's a thought re the Broncos:
If Peyton retires, and Eli is somehow available??? I have no idea what his contract situation is with the Giants other than he re-upped for big $$$$.....but the Giants appear to be a team going no where.

Cam says his pouting and storming out of the post game press conference was because he is a sore loser (his own words). He claims that any 'good loser' is just a loser.

Cam Newton proud to be a sore loser - Yahoo Sports

I'd refer him to the previous two QBs who lost Super Bowls. Russell Wilson last year was very classy, and you could easily argue that he was in an even worse position than Cam since he threw a last second INT to seal the loss. Yet he was still a professional about it. Peyton lost the year before that, and much of the blame was directly on his shoulders for his poor performance. Yet he did nothing but give credit to the other team and accept responsibility. I don't think too many intelligent fans consider Wilson or Manning 'losers'. More likely 'mature' or ' classy' or ' professional'.

Cam Newton's explanation (did he actually explain anything?) of his press conference actions totally sucked, but with that said he's not the only star player to shoot himself in one foot and later the other one:

Cam Newton was as ingracious in defeat as Richard Sherman was in victory. And both of their post-screwup explanations left much to be desired.

I agree he could've/should've handled it better.

I heard what I thought was a fair counterpoint yesterday by Trent Dilfer though. He said that at least Cam didn't say what he was thinking at that very moment. The coaches called a poor game offensively. The O-Line was wrecked by Denver. His WRs dropped at LEAST 4-5 passes that would've been game changers. The front office has done very little to get him receiving talent to throw to. Some or all of those were probably what he had going through his mind. But he didn't throw anyone else under the bus, he just walked off.

While I still don't think it excuses it totally, it was an interesting "devil's advocate" argument IMO. While he didn't handle it well, it could've been far worse.

    Thank you.

I didn't mean to make a anti-Peyton rant, I just felt/feel that the attention he was receiving overshadowed the Broncos defense in the regular season, the POs, & the SB.

    -------------------------------

    Now about the Texans...

What are they going to do about getting a better QB, and possibly a WR, to help their offense better support their defense?

Will Arian Foster be able to return to form and stay healthy, or is he an example of why RBs have relatively short careers in the NFL?
