    What are you passionate about?
    Why?

How have you shaped your life around passions?

My father in law's passions is flying. But he became a lawyer. He hates his career and spends every spare second he can around planes.

I don't know what my passions are, really. I love my children and my husband. I enjoy being around plants. Lots of plants. Ok. My passion is plants. That was easy.

Learning. I love learning. One of the best parts of my job is getting to live the life of the mind. I think sometimes teachers forget to model scholarship. Out of that, I am passionate about reading, books, and writing.

I am passionate about food. I love to eat and cook. It's a joy.

Right now I'm working on a story with a chef as a main character. So I guess my passions are intersecting.

I don't know what I am passionate about. I have many interests that I can become passionate about for a time. Some I even return to, to rekindle the passion.

I've always assumed though that one's passion is a lifelong thing. Something that defines a person. I don't know if I've ever found that.

I makes me a bit sad.

I don't believe in a One True Passion any more than I believe in a One True Love or a One True Purpose. I think for most people we grow and change and evolve through life and, being naturally curious creatures, can get wrapped up in all sorts of things.

We are the navigators of our own destiny, and the kindlers of our own passion.

I have many interests. Perhaps they're all passions, or perhaps none of them are. I'm pretty content to engage with them as I see fit.

science - I'm interested in EVERYTHING...but in doing it, it comes when it comes. (I'm very undisciplined)
media - again I'm interested in EVERYTHING...but I don't go obsessive on product or players...it clicks when it clicks.
food - can't get enough, anything and everything...but I do try for moderation (this is a challenge)
sex - you have no idea...but I'm discrete, responsible and a romantic...so it's about finding a VERY passionate SO who's at the same level. (a challenge to say the least, because I like her to be sane & responsible too)

Pretty much as I am. I would say that my own frustration (not quite the right word for it) has to do with career paths. I am always hearing, "follow your passion", "what are you passionate about? Do that!"

Media has always been an interest and I've been lucky enough to make it into a career. I wouldn't say, however, that it remains a passion.

If anything, making it work has stifled some of the passion I once had for it.

Creativity Finding an outlet for my creative, artistic impulses has been a lifelong passion of mine, but over time I fluctuate between media, whether musical, visual arts, or writing.

Music has been the most consistent and longest-running manifestation, as I've been playing the violin since I was 4. In my younger years I did a lot of drawing (my profile picture is of a doodle I made during music theory class in 9th grade). I wrote what feels, in retrospect, like a crap ton of poetry in high school, college, and the first ten years or so of my post-college adult life and chose my undergraduate major thinking I was going to become a creative writing teacher. My current field of work, graphic design, is a creative outlet all its own, though not without the pressure, self-imposed high expectations, and mental exhaustion that comes with choosing any creative pursuit as a career. Most recently I've embraced digital photography and obnoxiously bring my camera pretty much everywhere I go... because you never know what you might see.

One of these is usually dominant over the others. The visual has come to the forefront in the last few years, mostly on account of my day to day work... though it's been a really long time since I've drawn anything or made any artwork that didn't originate on a screen. It's also been a really long time since I've written anything, and COVID's suspension of my music ensembles' activities has sadly pulled the plug on much of my motivation to play/practice my violin.

Cycling I may be slower than shit compared to other fitter members of my local community, with their carbon fiber speed machines, but I absolutely love riding and get downright grumpy when I'm not getting enough in on a regular basis.

Nature My first true passion that I embraced on my own. I adore the (non-human) living world and am especially fond of birds. I can thank my parents for that.
