It just got onto Netflix's streaming in preparation for the upcoming second season. We've just finished the 4th episode.

I didn't realize that it was something that Frank Darabont developed and did. If you don't know he did The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile.

It's an amazing series so far. I'm looking forward to finishing it and seeing season 2 in the next upcoming weeks.

I loved season one. Unfortunately my only choice for viewing season two in a fresh fashion will likely be paying per episode on iTunes, and there is a good chance they will be getting my money.

Watched most of season 1 on DVD but got distracted and never finished it. Will have to dig them out again and finish as I was enjoying the series.

That was a good long teaser trailer that revealed practically nothing and grabs your attention fully.

I saw that "Viglink" changed my mere mention of the Apple music store into a working link. How interesting.

I watched the first episode on demand the other day out of pure curiosity, and watched the remaining 5 (of the ones available on demand) over the rest of the week. That in itself is a pretty big compliment from a person who typically watches less than an hour of TV a week. It's also (probably related...) the first TV show that I've really liked in a long while. I'll have to see if there are more episodes to finish before season two starts.

I totally love this show. Cannot wait for it to start again.
Zombies give me nightmares. These give me deliciously creepy ones.

Well, Darabont, according to a New York Times article I just read was involved with about half of the 13-episode season 2 so that's good. I'm amazed at how he's not uttered a syllable as to what went down prior to AMC firing him. Prior to being let go Darabont did make an offhand comment in an interview that he was worried about the budget but he was hugely enthusiastic about season 2 at Comic Con--then he was fired 3 days later.
I'm beyond excited about the new season. I have read the comic book series and I know the direction a couple of the characters will be going in (it's been confirmed by the actors). I can't wait. Oh, and the zombies are pretty fun, too. I have a 'Bicycle Girl'* t-shirt that I've worn to death (no pun). *Bicycle Girl is 'Hannah', who is in the current webisodes on the official AMC the Walking Dead site. Her scene with 'Rick' in season 1 was heartbreaking.

Nice. I enjoyed the first season, though I think it was somewhat slow. Nonetheless, it's on my must watch list.

Just finished episode 2 on Netflix.

Question: Do people who die without being bitten or scratched in any way come back from the dead in this series?

Also, I feel sorry for the poor horse that died by the tank.

It appears thus far that they do not. With only 6 episodes last season though it is unknown for certain. The promos would seem to indicate SMALL SPOILER that people died in their cars trying to escape Atlanta and they stayed put after doing so.
Yeah, that poor horse. I was a little annoyed with Rick about that one but I guess under the circumstances there was not a lot of choice.

I love Zombie games, anime and movies.

I'll trust the word of all of you on this one, so I'm downloading the episodes right now. Hope you guys are right!

I've wanted a good zombie story for years now.

    Good to know.

I thought this a bit at first also, but I dismissed it for two reasons. First the pace of most current television/movies is way too fast. So absurdly fast that it's really damaging these mediums for me. In that context it's slower, but only by comparison. Check out some older foreign films if you want to see some painfully slow moving plotlines.

Secondly, I think it really works for the series. The speed it moves at allows them tell stories and develop the series in a way that keeps it from looking like screen capture from the latest Resident Evil, which is a real danger for a series like this.

I appreciate the pace they set, and the fact they are not constrained to fit everything into a feature film length. The back stories are fascinating to see develop in what is often bits and pieces to the viewer.
I also like the more classical "zombies are fully dead" and that they move slowly. Having said that it is nice to see more of the fast/running zombies in some takes on the subject out there.

It's a good thing I'm not in charge of a group of people scavenging for weapons and goods.
I was shouting at the screen the whole time they were holding the shotguns on the vatos to "shoot them!"
"What are you waiting for?" "Take the leader out!" "He's unarmed!"
    Good thing they didn't, eh?
    :)

It hasn't come up in the TV show yet, so I don't know the answer.

In the comic book though ANYONE who dies, in any way comes back as a Zombie.

I just finished the first season and while it was entertaining, I don't feel I got enough back story on the characters. None of them have managed to winnow their way into my heart. (Except for the horse, of course, of course.) For instance, I've been through six episodes and I don't even know the characters well enough to be able to identify them by their names. I thought the opening sequence with the father and son was much more compelling and emotionally provocative than anything that came after it. Hopefully we will be drawn in like that with the rest of the characters, as well, but it should have been done in the first season, in my useless opinion. :p

I think that's why the first season works so well.

There's enough to tease out for later. We know enough about the partners and Rick's family and the other boy and father. I think that if we got more backstory on the other characters we'd not get the expanse of the exposure and the current state of society, but more of the "moment it happened" for each character. The sisters and the redneck brothers are great juxtapositions on how they grew up and are dealing with the new world.

well, it just comes down to a matter of needs. the expanse and exposure of society has been played out in countless zombie movies and post apocalypse type films. I feel like I get that. But to sustain it through, what was essentially six hours of material, I wanted to know more about the people. I'm not saying that I didn't like it or that I won't continue to watch it just that most of the characters, at the end of the first season, were still largely cardboard cutouts and I would like to have invested a little more. Much like they managed to do with the doctor in season six with just one scene, know what I mean?
