I have a MacBook Pro from 2010 that still works great. I have had two iPhones, an iPod, an iPod touch (alarm clock now) and an iPad mini for a truck stereo screen. If I make a change in iTunes, all of my devices update when they sync. I haven't had any major problems besides Firefox slowing things down, but it does the same thing on Windows and Linux too.

I have two Sony stereo receivers, multiple Sony speakers too. I only use Western Digital hard drives, and just setup a RAID5 array with 4 of them. I only have Oakley sunglasses. There might be more, but I can't think of any right now.

I used to love all kinds of music.

Then I made the mistake of trying to learn to play guitar at around age 45. While my nearly complete lack of musical aptitude helped me further appreciate those who can play, it and being tone deaf depresses me to know that I could never be more than a hack. I can't get excited about music knowing that it's way beyond my very limited grasp. Which is stupid since a great number of people are quite happy to enjoy music while knowing that they can't play an instrument, sing. etc.

I don't say this to sound superior, but I tend to avoid emotional relationships with brands/objects. It's not a "too good for it" thing, but a "don't know how to do it" thing. Granted, it's what normal people do (within bounds), but ... well, draw your own conclusion ...

Drawing a conclusion is difficult because TBH I don't understand what you're saying.

I'm with you on speaker wire and use 10gauge lamp cord with mine. Most of my interconnects are balanced (4 wire), not for snooty audiophile reason, just because that's what the gear requires. Some amps sound clinical and cold, others are warm. I tend to get hearing fatigue when the sound is too sharp and prefer a warmer amp.

I love big assed speakers and hated to see my 150# JBLs go away; but there was no making peace with them in a small log home. Had the same problem with Magnapans. The hard walls and smaller room make it tough. My main music system uses these: PSB Imagine B. Got em as "returned B stock", I have no clue what the flaw is; but they have pretty impressive sound. I would have never thought that I would like a speaker that small; but these will do. I have a small subwoofer (Outlaw designed by HSU) under the desk.

In my opinion, the source is as important as the speakers, amplified crap is still crap. I'm moving from CD to FLAC and use a fairly high end DAC.

Not many regrets in life; but I really wish I'd have picked up the guitar at some point. I played multiple brass instruments in High School and can read music. I was reasonably good at it; but gave it up when the instruments that I played weren't appropriate to the music that I listened to. These days, I'm 60 with a very low tolerance for personal suckage. By the time I get to a point where I'm happy with my playing, I'd be dead. I make a damn good audience, though.

With your background you'd probably pick up guitar fairly quickly. A lot would depend on what you want; becoming a virtuoso might not be doable right away.

I'd just be happy to be able to play simple songs without embarrassing myself. We have a large stack of a variety of song books, so I know that there are many songs that I like that aren't that complicated, just basic standard chords with straightforward strumming. Bruce Springsteen, Hank Williams Sr (his songs are about as basic as you can get), Bob Marley, and others.

My situation double sucks because my wife is a classically trained music major (oboe was her main instrument back the) who is a music teacher, classroom & private. I can't take guitar lessons from my wife, it just doesn't work.
