    Tell me about your watch.
Do you own a wrist watch?
Maybe you're a pocketwatch kind of person.

    What are some quality-yet-inexpensive options?
And what are some fun and funky watches?

A friend of mine recently was given a kinetic watch as a wedding gift from her spouse. It's beautiful and practical.

I always wear a watch when out of the house, unless I'm playing sports. It may sound strange, but it feels odd to me not to have a watch on when I'm out. But at home it feels odd for me to have one on, unless I'm about to walk out the door.

I have thick wrists and like a relatively substantial watch, without getting cartoonishly large.

The two main watches I wear on a daily basis are a Citizen and a Hamilton.

I really want an Omega Seamaster, but it's a little out of the budget for something unnecessary. A couple times I've almost talked myself into it, but it's probably better I haven't. But if @ZombieSquirrel ever decides to admit her undying love for me, now she knows what to buy me.

I typically don't wear a watch. I work with kids and have scratched faces and arms in the past during behavior therapy. I do have a fitbit that tells me the time. Hubs has a fancy watch that he wears when we go out. I can't remember if it's a Tag or an Omega. I think Tag Heuer. And, he wears his apple watch all the time except at Crossfit.

I usually wear something cheap and soft plastic that I get on Amazon, after putting a nasty scratch in a violin from a heavier silver watch. I usually wear a watch except when sleeping, showering, swimming, etc. but I have friends that always use their phone (instead of a watch) to find out what time it is.
I for one am glad to see that the trendy "wristwatch the size of a dinner plate" fad seems to be finally passing.

A lot depends on the thickness of the wrist/forearm it is on IMO.

I had someone tell me 47mm was way too huge for a watch dial.

Then I showed it to them on my wrist.

I don't think that looks obscenely huge on me?

Nope, that's a reasonable size on you.
For me, though... that watch would be wider than my wrist.

While I don't need it specifically for time anymore...other than instant convenience, since I have my iPhone on me always.
I do enjoy the look and fashion of a watch.

And I have a few to go with the looks of the day, just like shoes or ties.
    Depends on my mood.

I do miss my Movado and I'll have to get a new one...but I had to sell this since it has my ex's "curse" on it. (*wedding gift from her):eek::oops::(

Check any of my pics, you'll see it on my wrist. Lately I don't wear it to work, because the band takes a beating and I don't want to wear it out too soon. I'm finding that these leather bands are getting harder to come by. (Every few years I get a new timepiece which costs less than the band itself.)

I have a battery powered Seiko that is about 25 years old and still going, even though it does seem to go through batteries quicker now days. That could be because the stores that replace the battery are stuck with an overstock of 'old' batteries.

My main watch is a Citizen Eco-Drive that I've had for 14 years. It's dressy enough for business dress, and casual enough not be pretentious. My wife & I bought matching his & hers watches on our 15th wedding anniversary. About five years ago her watch developed a problem and eventually quit working (out of warranty, with the repair cost exceeding the value of the watch, of course!), while mine is still going strong.

Back in March? April? we replaced hers with another Citizen Eco-Drive. It's the black face model that is a basically a copy of the original Movado design. One of these days I'm going to buy one for me, but not to have matching watches, I've liked the Movado design since I first saw one many years ago. I/We can't justify buying a Mavado, even the more affordable model.

I refer to the oversized wristwatches as wristclocks :p.

Citizen makes a good watch IMO. Like you said, many models are nice enough for dressy/formal occasions, but also work for casual wear. The only thing I've had kill a Citizen is a motorcycle accident. Shattered the crystal and scraped up the case. The mechanism inside kept working, but the watch (one in pic above) was wrecked beyond repair.

Protip for those that are rough on watches like I am, make sure you get one with a sapphire crystal.

We had no reservations about buying another Citizen. My wife is rough on watches in the sense of scratching & scuffing, I can see the crystal on her watch needing replacing in a couple of years. She doesn't have a Passion For Fashion, but she did give me dirty look when I suggested that she wear a cheap but durable beater watch to work. On that note when we researched watches we saw that Timex offers some basic watches that look nice and are priced right (if she damages her nice Citizen she might end up with a Timex :p).

My nephew-in-law works in a petrochemical plant. He wears the inexpensive plastic digital chronograph watches because he knows that sooner or later the watch will get broken, or be so beat up it'll need to be replaced. And the built-in timers come in handy when they're testing equipment. IIRC he likes the better Timex models because they're more reliable and durable, and affordable.

Sometimes ya just gotta strap on a big-ass watch. I have several Seikos and G-Shocks for work and a Citizen for dress-up, but for general everyday pimpin', I like my reserve Invictas.

The other day I purchased a basic wrist watch on clearance for $7. I haven't worn one regularly since my daughter was born. I have been using wall clocks and my phone. Recently I realized that every time I checked my phone for the time, I became distracted by emails and other notifications. I decided I needed a simple wrist watch. Something that did nothing more than tell the time. Oh man, I am so glad I did. It helps me to be more present for my children.

I wear this, simple, analog, & black, with a titanium case and sapphire crystal. I tend to destroy watches, I try for ones that are tough

The watch above is 38 mm and looks larger on my wrist than the 48mm one does on yours.

You could also get a phone that is only a phone that allows you to make and receive calls.:D

  19. I feel naked without something on my wrist. Currently it is a fitbit, but I have a nicer watch that I wear for special occasions. It was a gift for my volunteer work with the NMSS. Nice and worth more than I would be willing to pay myself at the time, but not too extravagant. It's a Tommy Hilfiger, which makes me giggle since it seems like such a 90's brand.
