I got mine for emergencies at a DV center. It could be used for 911 only.

I'm going call some of the shelters. It'd be nice to see our bag-of-old-phones put to good use.

I think the offset loss of screen real estate really kills the blackberries for me. The touch screen keyboards are so good now.

    Time for a bump.

Are any iPhone users here going pass on the new iPhone 7 models because of
No Headphone Jack, Must Buy The Apple Wireless System?

Not sure when I'll upgrade, but probably will at some point in the next 6-9 months. It won't really impact me. When I picked up some Bluetooth ear phones I stopped having a use for the jack. Can't remember he last time I used it anyway (did on my iPad pre-Bluetooth for watching vids).

Dredging up this old thread because I'm giving up my flip-fone. Maybe. I'm thinking of the convenience of always having a camera on me. I love that my flipper (for my limited use -- a few calls and texts each week) usually costs me under $10 per month. I'm afraid that will probably change.:(

A friend has offered to sell me an iPhone5 that looks like brand new for $30. H says it needs a battery soon, if not now, and will have it "unlocked" whatever that means. I don't mind not having the latest and greatest, just something with a decent camera.

    Any opinions?

I'll probably still just use it mostly as a phone or texts. Watching video on a postage-stamp size screen screen just because I can -- that has no appeal to me.
Music maybe, I forgot to look for an audio output jack.

Check the cost of a new battery. Also check offers on cell phone plans because you might be able to get a perfectly fine smart phone--which is leftover/new old stock, considered outdated (which it really isn't)--for free. Or you could end up with a free tablet. I used to think tablets were a waste, until I finally hooked-up a wireless router for WiFi.

DAKA DOING VERY NICELY, THANK YOU

Flip phone is great....but...after MANY years of "abuse" by EVERYONE, I finally went to an I phone...a 6 no less.
As you said the camera is great, and replying to texts is good, but the damn thing is big, makes calls by itself and is a general PIA
But, it seems that you gotta' move forward.... (I guess)

my biggest issue is that I never have any battery because I'm always futzing with something like Facebook, TFP, or a game. When I want to make a call... no battery LOL

Portable chargers are the bomb. We use them to boost while futzing.

Portable chargers are a necessity when sitting in a tree stand for 8-10 hours....

Or walking around the city for hours. And when travelling. Or when every plug in your office is utilized by essentials.

Usually I am pretty good about having a fully charged phone to start the day, and grabbing a few minutes here and there to top it off any time I have a chance. Unfortunately I haven't found any outlets in a tree yet. :p
