A favorite movie of mine was watched last night. I happened to catch it on TiVo and recorded it.

Gotcha staring Anthony Edwards (before he shaved his head and was on ER!) and Linda Fiorentino (she was super hot!)

It's got a good sound track, 2 songs from Frankie Goes to Hollywood!!!

It also has a scene that pays homage to Treasure of the Sierra Madre.

Please tell us an underrated or under appreciated film from the 80s. The more obscure the better.

Soup For One, 1982. I really liked this film when I saw it in the early '80s; if I saw it now I might think it sucks.

A couple of good scenes, using my foggy memory:

The main character is trying to track down his 'dream girl' and the only thing he has to go on is her diaphragm, which has the name of her gynecologist on the case. When he visits the doctor's office he's told, "This is a gynecology office, Mr. Hisname. We're not sure what we can do for you." He responds, "I'm looking for a second opinion."

A guy is resisting his parents suggestions that he quit pursuing just sexual relationships and settle down. One of his female friends tells him, "Saying no to your parents is easy, my three year old does it all the time. Admitting that your parents are right is difficult."

The trailer ^ does a piss poor job of describing the movie.

Sneakers! Haven't thought of that movie in a long time. I remember seeing it in the theater.

Sneakers is a great ensemble pic.

    Underappreciated eighties film?
The movie that made me fall in love with Jeff Bridges and Karen Allen, Starman.

    movie!

    -------------------------------

This movie is no longer underrated or under-appreciated. But in 1982 it was a flop at the box office, and had very mixed critical reviews. It was one "those" movies that very quickly went to cable TV, where it would be shown at odd times. It eventually built a cult following over the years, and through VHS & DVD sales it became very popular. The director and lead actor have done relatively OK since this film :p.

    Blade Runner.

I'm not sure how underrated these are, but I don't think they got a lot of mainstream attention when they were released.

    Into The Wild
    Merchants Of Doubt
    Ex Machina
    Kon Tiki

The movie I'm about to mention was not under-appreciated or underrated, it received much critical acclaim, and did very well at the box office. Which surprised me since it's about a widely misunderstood "war."

    The Killing Fields (1984).

Note--I was extremely happy when I found this on DVD for a great price. I'm guessing that somebody with good taste unloaded a bunch of DVDs at a pawn shop, or maybe a surviving relative or thief unloaded them. At the same time I scored A Boy And His Dog.
