As shipped, Ghost Gunner manufactures mil-spec AR-15 and AR-308 lower receivers to completion. With simple tools and point and click software, the machine automatically finds and aligns to your 80% lower to get to work. No prior CNC knowledge or experience is required to manufacture from design files. Legally manufacture unserialized AR rifles in the comfort and privacy of your home.

Read the reviews and see this as feasible. Fed-ex won't deliver or so I heard.

It's not my thing. I like guns, but never really got into the military-style modern rifles.

However, as a former machine operator, mostly a DeVlieg Jig Mill CNC, it intrigues me.

Same here as a cutting tool designer, the possibilities of other amazing things is unlimited. Especially being open source.

I'm not crazy about the idea of unserialized guns being easily available, especially one so potent as an ar-15.

It is a scary thought. But you have to consider the large number of serialized guns that changed hands many times with no record of the new owner(s), or the ones purchased before an owner had to register a gun. Only one, maybe two, of my guns could possibly be traced back to me.

That is kinda cool - but can it mill from a solid block of metal or mill other parts like the trigger group or a bcg or are you stuck putting in their $65 80% lower? The majority of buyers are going to be buying this out of fear of a gun grab - and if that happens, buying 80% lowers will be near impossible as well.

as for the comments above... AR-15s are NOT any more scary than anything else. heck, .223 rounds aren't even legal for hunting deer in all 50 states due to being on the smaller side of the spectrum.

Yeah without serial numbers we wouldn't know how many people have died as a result of the BATFE's Fast and Furious operation :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Thank you for proving my point. Even with serial numbers these were very hard to track. Imagine how impossible it will be when there are no serial numbers in the first place. You made an excellent example about why things need to be serialized. It is protection for people doing things legally.

So how exactly do serial numbers make things safer? They do zero to prevent misuse. The only thing that would change if we abolished serial numbers would be that lost/stolen guns would be harder to return to their rightful owner, which would result in less guns in people's hands (something you sound like you may like).

Let's not forget that bad guys don't follow laws. They buy black market guns. They don't get permits. They most of all, they prefer not leaving their gun next to the incidents of misuse for police to recover and trace. With that said - a good majority of gun laws only create obstacles for people seeking legal firearms for self defense and hunting.

You might want to also google that fast and furious campaign. The US releases a load of weapons into the hands of bad guys with the hopes of tracking them... They all pretty much disappeared. Total failure.

If you think I'm antigun, look at my post history. My bona fides have been proven. If serial numbers were not a concern for criminals, then why would would they spend time and effort to remove them? Because let's face it, the whole idea of criminality is that it's easier than being lawful. And a lot of stolen guns do get recovered. Enough to make it worthwhile to have serial numbers. Or if recovered with defaced numbers, to know there is an issue. Would you buy a gun without serial numbers or a defaced one?

So because one program to try to capture illegal gun sellers and straw men didn't work, all serial numbers are useless? That would be like saying since some guns kill people we should get rid of all guns.

You're missing what I'm saying. I'm trying to say serial numbers aren't a god send and the world isn't going to end and nobody is going to get hurt if some guy with a CNC builds his own AR without one. There isn't really much to fear there. I'm all for people being able to build and customize firearms.

I do agree they help recover lost/stolen.

As for registering a firearm, I will to great lengths to avoid that. Down here in Texas, there is a abundance of firearms. No need to put it on paper unless it for insurance. In the last 40 yrs I have registered 2 firearms, rest was from the good old boy network.
