I live in the suburban desert so my yard needs embellishment to kill the drab. I find the search for pretty solar lights fun--just bought a second of latest favorite garden/yard solar lamp. So cute and very pretty when it lights just as the sun sets.

  4. I have a similar one. Need a new one. Started playing only a few years ago. But now it always feels like I don;t have enough options. I see why all of my musician friends have storage lockers full of choices.

Multiple guitars are great if the number matches a player's skill level. I'm more of a collector of affordable and it-would-be-stupid-not-to-buy-it guitars. I should sell every electric guitar and amp that doesn't get played (my wife is the real musician, she much prefers acoustic).

Years ago MW offered some very sound (yes, pun) advice: Get a straight acoustic that's comfortable and sounds good, pay to have it set-up properly, and learn to play well before buying an electric guitar.

People assume that electric and acoustic guitars are the same instrument, or similar like two brothers. Or sisters.

    Not so.

They are as different as a trumpet is from a saxophone.

Likewise the difference between an upright bass and a slab bass.:D

    Kewl.

I've always wanted to put together "bumblebee" stratocopy: Bright, bright yellow finish on the body & front of headstock. Black hardware, all of it. Black nut. Ebony FB. Black PG. Yellow PUP covers, knobs, & selector tip.

I wouldn't got that far :D. What you learn on an acoustic can be transferred to elec, & vice versa. My wife's point is most beginner guitar students need to concentrate on learning to play the guitar first, then after learning a bit be concerned about plugging in and fiddling :p with the knobs.

On that note....most of the dedicated acoustic players I know aren't too concerned about playing slab elecs unless gigs require it. And most of the guys who really like elec aren't that thrilled about acoustic because they'd rather plug-in and jam (they view acoustic as a necessary evil, i.e. neighbors, sleeping kids, unsympathetic spouses, etc.). Not many players in the middle.

Mad acoustic skills only improve your chops on electric. You generally learn to play cleaner, IMO.

The folks who hide their playing flaws under distortion, and other effects, can't do that on straight acoustic.

I've bought a lot of things since getting to Israel. Better sunhats, some Source Gobi sandals (made here in Israel), a mini heater and timer, etc. This however was the first thing worth posting. Two trekking poles (normally sold individually here) for ~$36, some supplies, and a trail map for Yam El Yam.

Yes, you can see that correctly. The trail goes from the Mediterranean to the Galilee, which is why it's called "Sea to Sea" in hebrew. Officially a 3 day hike, in practice most do it in 4 and take their time. I'll be enjoying myself and taking it easy over a whole week and maybe visiting some friends in Tzfat on the way.

That pyramid-shaped house I posted about in another thread? They're selling their own bottled water that comes from a natural aquifer under the house!

Apparently the shape is not the final design, so it will be a short delay before this stuff officially hits the shelves of your local grocery store. They say it matches the standards for European water, and it does taste pretty good. The owners also state that any miracles occurring after drinking the water are strictly attributable to the placebo effect. (I'm not joking about that, either.)

This is what they call a "tactile transducer":

I actually have two. I've had them for a few weeks now, but I'd thought I'd share.

For those asking, what the hell IS it, it's simple: It attaches to your chair/couch from your speaker system, and when you watch a movie with a lot of explosions/gunshots/bone-crushing impacts, the transducer sends a jolt to your chair and you feel the vibration!

It probably goes without saying that if you're watching a movie made from a Jane Austen novel, you won't really experience much. Mad Max: Fury Road? Holy shit, that's a different story! (Especially if you're like me and you listen to movies at rock-concert loudness levels.)

To a degree, yes- any low frequency sounds picked up by the subwoofer transmit a signal to the transducers and they simply vibrate in sync. It helps to mount them to the framework of the chair/couch, you won't get the desired results by burying it between the cushions.

Also, these models are the medium-grade ones; they cost about $45 each. The cheap ones only go for about $20, but I read enough reviews to determine that they were woefully inadequate. The HIGH-grade models run for $250 apiece, and as badly as I want them, I simply don't have the money for that.

They do add an extra element of fun to movie watching, even if sometimes it's just a little. It's not like my couch is now a theme-park ride, but on occasion it feels like getting a sledgehammer in the back (but in a good way.)

I bought a cheap home paper shredder (less than $20 at Amazon)

I dont expect a lot of use given that most of my important papers are electronic, but I do have lots of old documents to shred.

Elizabeth & James Nirvana Bourbon Rollerball. I fell for this in Sephora, and my husband is lurvvvvvving it on me. rawr. Trying to move entirely away from animal tested products and perfume has been my last holdout. Finding high quality fragrance that is cruelty free has made me a happy girl. This one evokes summer nights a lil' smokey like a beach bonfire, haze, that feeling of a warm breeze on bare skin. s1855246-main-Lhero.jpg Damn. I need to put some on now.
