What's a good video editor app for Mac OS computer?

I'd like for someone to recommend software to edit the dull parts out of videos, then stitch it all back together. Mostly talking about porn and homemade sports videos. Using Mac OS 10.10.5 Yosemite, but could upgrade.

Also, what is the difference between a video editor and a video converter? Thanks.

I haven't worked with Mac computers in 20 years, so I can't recommend any Mac software, but a video converter will take a file and change it into a different format (if the original video file is in a format called AVI, and you want it to play on a Mac, it needs to be changed into a MOV file, for example.)

Actually, the above example is for video converting software- if you're talking about a physical component, then a converter plugs into your computer and takes a signal from your VHS player or camcorder and as you play your tape, the converter "captures" it and turns the video into an editable file for your computer.

Usually, a physical converter comes with software, anyway. I'm not sure which kind you need, so I'm covering as many bases as possible. :)
