Not unless I want to get caned.

It's plain or sesame seed. I haven't seen an everything bagel here, ever. I have seen pandan flavoured though. People love their pandan here.

Ah ... since social media [this place] Incited me to storm the streets, saggy pants hoiked up, as usual, for action by stealth suspenders under my t-shirt, loot a bag of bagels, and give money to the vendor because why should he pay the price of my political action?
Since then, I've eaten 4 out of 5. I have One Left YaaaaaY! And will have it with a cup of tea when I have finished this post.

Charlatan, that is an amazing eye opener. Poppy seeds on bread is one of the English everyday choices for as long as I have lived. I suppose to people where you live it could be as weird and wrong as rubbing ganja before baking and putting it on display in the shop. Hang on ... I just visualized: ganja-rubbed foccacia bread, swap it out with the rosemarie. (o/t: spell-checker still going strong - thanks)

Zen, I am from Canada but now live in Singapore. Where I am from, poppy seeds are the norm and I miss them on my bagels as much as I do in my lemon cake.

Everything= Poppy, Sesame, Onion, Garlic...(I guess that's it)
We now buy bagels at Costco about $ 4.50 a dozen, rather than the neighborhood bagel store a .95 cents each sorry but as much as I like to support local businesses there aint a difference worth double the price.

I'm buying 3 doz Montreal Style bagels on the way in to work this morning - it's for a working breakfast meeting. The predominant request is for the everything style.

snagged a picture of my bagels coming out of the oven. They were so hot, my arms were burning through the paper bag.

    Very nice indeed!

There is nothing like a bagel made in a wood-fired oven.

Bump: It's been awhile. I've got a craving. At the risk of breaking the internet with the old debate, what's the preference:

Montreal Style Bagel or New York Style Bagel

    Boy that's a tough one.
Grew up on NY Bagels, still love them. Have made multiple trips to Montreal and make sure never to miss the bagels while I'm there.
How about this: For breakfast, with cream cheese, I'd say it's a dead heat.
If I'm going to make a sandwich of it, like with egg salad or tuna, I want the NY bagel which is a little broader and larger.
For a quick snack, I'd go Montreal.

I had no idea there were so many geographical differences in bagels. Now, kind of want to taste them all.

Ahh...one of my favorite food groups :D

Seriously @Wildmermaid - I can tell the difference between where I live in Baltimore/DC and up where I grew up in Southern Connecticut.
CT does it up right when it comes to bagels (NYC too, of course)

Flavors (I'm talking just taste here)
    Variety (tons)
Applications (a multitude of incredible sandwich-like and dishes)

And in Oklahoma I was just at...nada (barely anything, except maybe brandname blech in the grocery store.)
Even the national fast food chains didn't have them (no McD's bagel breakfast sandwich??!!)

Oh no. it is waaay worse.

I have no desire to eat the grocery store brand (eg Dempsters) or anything from a fast food chain such as the McD bagels. I will say this tho, I have never enjoyed a NY bagel. No, scratch that, I did have one near Times Square, on November 21, 1981. But back then it was just a bagel to me as I didn't appreciate the differences and nuances.

Fast (or creep ) forward a several decades, and I have come to embrace Montreal Bagel culture. These chewy creations are good to enjoy either toasted with lox & cream cheese or plain. The fact that they have to be boiled in honey water first and then baked in a wood oven makes them all that more enjoyable.

check this out (a deli in Brooklyn & Manhattan): Mile End Deli

New place in Fort Lauderdale (area) BROOKLYN WATER BAGELS...they "claim" that they "make" NYC water, which "they claim" is the problem with other bagels
So far they are the best ones I hae found here, another is EINSTEIN or OFFERDAHLS.
I buy a dozen at a time, cut in half, freeze and have half in the morning....scouped out, cream cheese, smoked salmon sometimes...one good idea that they have is that they coat the bagel on both sides...with the topping.

Same here. I'd need to do a comparison of all four styles. We recently discovered cranberry bagels, Thompson brand at Kroger.

Westbury is a neighborhood in Houston with a large Jewish population. There seems to be a bagel shop/bakery on every third block.

What are the 4 styles? I need to do some field research in this area as well.

wrt NYC water - does this mean that NYC style bagels get boiled in honey water prior to baking - just like Montreal style?

The four styles? types? mentioned early in the thread.

Some claim the water pipes, the old ones I think, in NYC give the water a unique taste that is essential to good NYC bagels.
