Wedding Cake and the U.S. Supreme Court

    The case of the Colorado bakery owner who refused to make a wedding cake for a same-sex couple has (finally) reached the Supreme Court.

    I'm a bit torn on this issue. I think that business owners have the right to refuse service, but what if that refusal can be defined as discrimination that goes against state and/or federal laws?

    Everyone needs to grow the fuck up. People would rather be right than happy these days.

    You can't make me like you if I think you are a miscreant. I shouldn't have to provide service to you if I don't agree with you in some form.

    You are free to go elsewhere. Vote with your wallet and your attention span/eyeballs. You are free to call me whatever the fuck name you want to or protest as you are standing outside of my place of business.

    I don't need to share why I don't want to service you. I can make up some reason as to why that is legitimate enough. Wear it on your sleeve, pay the price for doing it, but hey you're in the right but now miserable because the internet wrath sucks ass.

    But that's not how I operate. I can see someone following that protocol and no one ever knowing that someone is truly a bigot. They may think or believe, but they won't get confirmation.

    Everyone wants their way today. No compromise, no middle ground of agree to disagree and move on. Nope, "I don't have to change, you have to change." Been saying that since I started posting on TFP in 2003.

    I dunno, it's not a very large step from "We don't serve gays" to "We don't serve blacks, Jews, or Muslims". I'm sure someone can find a religious justification for each. If it's OK for a baker, is it OK for a surgeon or EMT? I'm sure this guy has baked cakes for one hell of a lot of other sinners.

    If you are open to the public, you're open to everyone. I'm fine with refusing service for being an asshole, not for who they sleep with.

    It's not okay for a baker, it's okay for a business owner who is a baker. Again they can find a way to say "That guy is an asshole that's why I won't serve him." And once in a while, you're going to have to serve someone you don't like why? So you don't show the world you're an asshole.

    I think it's fine to not serve people who are gay as long as I can put a big sign on your shop that says that.
    That way people can make a choice to do business with you based on your choices.
    That is how the free market is supposed to work right?

    If you are being an asshole to people because of your deeply held beliefs then you should be proud of them.
    Putting a big sign out front saying that you don't serve gays, adulterers, or women who have abortions should be fine with you.
    And it would be our right to not shop at your store.
