What books are you reading right now?

I recommend The Revenant as an entertaining light read, esp. if you like western adventure novels. Punke is no Laura Hillenbrand (it'd be nice if we had more writers like her), but he manages to mix known facts, information generally accepted as fact, tall tales, and his own fiction into some very readable historical fiction. I did a fair amount of research on Hugh Glass before I started the book, and I haven't seen the movie (apparently very few people have or will), but even with potential spoilers in my mind I still enjoyed the read.

 

Setting Free The Bears, John Irving's first novel.

 

I think I ploughed through them 3 times in all. So very good. I also did the Dune trilogy 3 times before moving on to the new books.

The Pretender by Marc Ruskin, good book detailing undercover work for the FBI. This guy goes into detail on how they survive dealing with some really bad people in close range with no back up..

Just finished Swiss Family Robinson forgot how good the old ones was..

 

Reading--or more accurately said, listening to--THE CODEX by Douglas Preston. I'd never heard of it, and took a flyer on it at the library. Not very good, but when I start one, I tend to finish it.

Also heard THE ROOSTER BAR by John Grisham last week. Typical Grisham--meaning entertaining--but I found myself rooting against the main characters probably a bit more than I should have.

I picked up the audio book of FALSE IMPRESSION by Jeffery Archer. As I started it, I thought "this sounds very familiar." After finishing the first disc of the five, I am quite sure I listened to it a few years ago. But I remember so little of it, it's almost new to me!

I frequently have to read several different parts of a book to figure out if I've read it. And I really need to make a list of the Tess Garritsen novels I've read because it has reached the point where I can't trust my memory.

Good stuff if you like very dark, violent, hardboiled, noir urban fantasy.

This wont make any best seller list, but having worked in the Senate for two years in the '80s and knowing the author through mutual acquaintances, I just started reading "When the Senate Worked for Us: The Invisible Role of Staffers in Countering Corporate Lobbies."
