Got a bad meal at one of my favorite Mexican places in Omaha. They are usually just about perfect, but not today.

I've never placed a high value on university degrees and the culture of idolization around them, but when I look at the incompetence some of these MBAs from top colleges and 15+ years experience display with any task regardless of complexity... I don't even know what to say. How do these people even manage to complete a single year, let alone graduate?

From what I've read, Omaha has had a vibrant Mexican/Latino community since the 1950s. Mostly because of the meat packing industry.
Omaha brags about steaks. Omaha has a couple dozen locally owned (not chains) family operated steak houses. Some dating back to the 1920s.

Several months back I did some research on Latino population in the US, and I was surprised by the large concentrations in some states.

It seems that many of the Mexican dishes found in Texas are much seasoned than what you get in Mexico.

Sigh. Technical people and their inability to write anything worth a damn.

And one of the downsides of multiculturalism and globalization is expressed in tech writing:
Now we get a manual with sketchy instructions in five languages.
Instead of comprehensive instructions in one language.

    Exhausted from work
The holiday is the start of a 5 day weekend.
The 4th is just recovery (too hot to go out and watch the fireworks...I'm not into the holiday anyway this year)

    I hope this is enough.
It's going to be fun...with friends and events

But this project is a big old beast...significant...and there's always "something else" and more that adds on.
I'm not used to missing deadlines or shifting schedules back...I'm used to making things happen.
They say this happens always at this place.
Still it goes against my instincts.

Doesn't help that I'm the only one that seems to be keeping track of the details to the overall plan, solution and goals.
I don't live just in the moment well...I remember history too well and see futures & consequences like others don't.

Nor does it help that there seems to be much hidden from me...not from intent...but neglect or just because I'm not there...too many layers and groups involved.

Helps to know that even with the push backs on the schedule,
we're farther ahead than many in management expected.
But I'm still not used to missing marks. (even if not in my control)

So I'll recharge...let go, take it easy.

Then I'll go back to making it happen.

    Think I cracked/bruised a rib.

Been trying to track down a pharmacy that stocked a rib wrap to help with the pain.

Went to 11 pharmacies, and nobody had anything!

Now I have to order online, and wait for the damn thing to come in the mail.

Going to be a long 4-7 days. (and a long 4-6 weeks to heal up, too.)

Might as well make the best of it:

You all better pray I heal up fast, because right now the jokes aren't going to get any fucking better right now! ;)

    @MeltedMetalGlob

Have you tried medical supply stores? They usually stock more specialized items than pharmacies.

Tried the Walgreens stores that have DME departments? I know the one in Oak Lawn on Cicero carried all kinds of stuff.

I have some kind of stomach thing that if I was the kind of person who threw up would have me doing it on a regular basis.
Instead I just sit around feeling miserable and not being able to do anything.
    Blah.

Already put in an order online, and I really don't have more time to be driving around looking for local stores.

Tried six Walgreens stores; some in the city, some in my neighborhood, and a few others miles away in western neighborhoods. Also tried two Jewel/Oscos and three CVS pharmacies. After awhile the monotony of repeatedly walking in and out with no accomplishment starts to grate on one's nerves.

And a new fangled thing called the internet, which, as I understand it, can help folks find products. Sometimes available locally.

Heck, I've been told manufacturers, and distributors, have websites that include information such as Where To Buy...locally.

    Gosh darn technology.

That was the first thing I tried, just to make sure which pharmacies carried it- and it told me CVS and Walgreen's carried it.

Meh, the time I would spend on the phone waiting to talk to a human being would come out to 12-15 minutes, compared to the 7-10 minutes driving to the store. Also, by the time I would get in touch with an employee, they would be 90% likely to either tell me straight out that they don't carry the item (without bothering to confirm it) or worse, not understand what it is I'm asking for and assume a back brace or abdominal wrap are the same thing as a rib wrap.

When it comes to my personal needs, I assume the responsibility rather than leave it in the hands of a $10/hour chain store employee who would treat me like a major inconvenience to their smoke break.
