Just FYI for the coder person, this is really hard to read in TFP dark. The quoted text is super-blendy with the background of the quote box except for the links with "for resisting arrest" and "told the Lufkin Daily News", which are blue.

well I think shooting him with a pepperball gun just because he refused to come out of the bathroom may have been a little excessive

 

No more wrong than a friend of mine being convicted a child molester because he was being a proper father to his daughter.

She wanted to go out to a party, he said no, she went out anyway, there was a huge blow up over it and she eventually called the cops and told them that he was "abusing her." Enter the appropriate amount of time later and everyone is in court, suddenly the daughter realizes she's started some serious shit and wants to back out of the whole thing. The DA pulls her aside and threatens her with jail time and a whole laundry list of other convictions if she doesn't get up on the stand and say exactly what she told them.

And we wonder why our justice system is broken?

 

Poor bugger. Judge is a bit of an ass though. Isnt it unusual for a jury to write a letter to the judge? Did they write because they had concerns over the trial.
I was suprised at the pepper ball gun - is that more or less painfull than a tazer?

I'm guessing that a perpperball would be an explosion of eye and lung 'fireyness'. I get asthma and sinusitis ... I could see one of those being dang dangerous and agony.
Taser ... still guessing here - I bet I'd have less contorl how I fell to the ground than with pepperball, so that could cause sprain or breakage injury.

Sinusitis is very painfull isnt it. I dont get it any more - now I have no sense of smell. I dont think I would like either - but I do know a man whos friend asks him to tazer him - I told him he is just 'giving him jollies'. Nowt so queer as folks is there.

the jury most likely wrote the letter because they were given the illegal instructions by the judge that they must only judge the facts of the case and not how the law is applied to it. That being the case, the jury felt obligated to convict him but thought it was wholly unfair.

 

In fact, if you are color blind like I am, it totally disappears . I finally had to go to the light background to be able to see a quote at all.

 

I left-clicked and dragged the mouse over the text... gave me enough contrast to read it.

I, also, feel that the judge was out of line. Could he have been motivated by a feeling that he had to protect the police in this case? If Marco walks, the officers are exposed to accusations of use of excessive force, not exercising sound judgement, etc. The lawyer says he's planning a lawsuit. I'd suggest they go for a change of venue.

 

Mistaken in his own home? Me, too. Luckily, the ex was there to take it out of my hands. If the judges' hands are tied by the systems, they're not to blame. If they feel their own prejudices more strongly than the law, they're not qualified. Sending a man to jail for "breaking into" his own house? "There oughta be a law against it."
