Dear Officiating Crew, and Frank Reich:

Thank you for the not watching the play clock, and for the highly questionable (really stupid) fourth down call and the "icing" timeout.

    Sincerely,
    The Houston Texans

    Rookie QBs are yo-yoing.

The Browns got screwed by the refs, but Mayfield's mistakes didn't help. But he looks like the Real Deal (and I don't like the arrogant prick).

    Some big questions were:

Are the Dolphins for real? No.

    Should the Patriots panic? No.

Are the Bengals for real? As always with the Bengals, a playoffs win is required to change Probably not to Yes.

Are the Lions still the Lions? Yes.

Should the Texans play for draft picks (intentionally, that is) under an interim HC? Yes. Fire O'Brien, flop (on purpose) this season, and tempt a proven coach or hot OC with a talented team with some high draft picks.

The league wants explosive offense, and late drives (stops) that decide the game. Keeping viewers on the edge of their seats is good for ratings, which means more ad revenue, not to mention various NFL gear. You need competent QB play, for those late game drives, where it's the offense against both the defense & the clock. More teams need quality backups, and quite a few are in need of good starters, when the pressure is on.

    Stats can be useful......and meaningless.

Look at the box score for the Packers vs the Lions.
    ..........
I root for Case Keenum, but I know his success last year could be a fluke. You'd think that John Elway would have some insight regarding QBs.

The Texans managed to beat the cowgirls. I'm still not impressed with the Texans.

But an ugly win is still a win. And it was against the 'girls.

Battle of good defenses, or inept offenses?

    Substitute Bills for cowgirls.

I don't know if JA would've made a difference in the outcome. Regardless, thank you to Peterman.

How long can Watson hold up? I mean mentally. To beat a dead horse...why didn't the Texans, namely O'Brien & Gain, seriously pursue an offensive lineman or two? Their 'cross our fingers and hope' approach isn't working.

Nathan Peterman......I don't even know what to say.
The guy looks great in practice, great in pre-season, and on that first drive he came in for after the Allen injury.
Then he just rips our hearts out.

Someone remind me, why were the Jaguars so highly regarded?

Osweiler? Seriously? I'm stunned. And so are the Bears.

I hope the Chiefs wake up, really soon.

One negative about the Chiefs that has been pushed aside now that they're hot:

    Andy Reid.

He looks OK on paper, until you look at what didn't he didn't accomplish, but should've.

Can't hammer the QB on a sack. FT!
Speaks should've buried Brady so deep he could see China, or at least thought he was seeing China.

    Brady can not play forever.
    Belichick can not coach forever.
The Patriots' dynasty can not last forever.

Keep repeating the above three sentences until they (all of them, just to be safe) come true.

    Crappy NFL weekend for me.

    1. The Texans won a close ugly game over an inept opponent. A statement that applies to all of their "wins." So O'Brien gets another reprieve, while the Texans slide further down the draft ladder.

    2. The cowgirls actually looked like professional NFL team. What makes that suck even more is the NFC East is shaping up to be phuqing quagmire, the girls could end up being competitive. No, no, no! Please, no.

    3. The chosen-by-gawd and protected-by-the-officials Patriots are yet again shaping up to be the team to beat (even in the NFC, before the POs, before the SB). Shit.

Can I get you guy's opinions on Patrick Mahomes? He's from a town close by to where I live and I've made it a point to watch his games this season so far.
Is he a flash in the pan, or does he have what it takes to make a great career in the NFL?

Anyone who pretends to be certain, this early in his career, is just guessing.

My impressions so far are very positive. First, he grew up in a family acclimated to professional sports. That gives him a huge advantage. Second, he was able to mostly sit and observe his rookie year. Again, a huge advantage. Finally, he has a very solid offensive coach, and has incredible physical gifts, let alone what appears to be excellent aptitude for when to force a play and when not to. His TD to INT ratio at the start of the season is incredible. The way he scrambles to throw is very impressive. His poise and gamesmanship is excellent.

Injuries, poor coaching in the future, or any number of obstacles may create issues in the future. But so far I'm sold that he will be a very good to above average QB.

    Thanks for your input, Borla.
I'm a very casual sports watcher these days and don't have much knowledge on him.
The commentators that I've seen talking about Mahomes talk about the records he's setting and make him seem like he can't do wrong, then I see him lose vs the Patriots (though, the Chiefs did have an excellent comeback) and I worry they're setting him up to fall.

A bit dated. Substitute Prescott for Romo, and add Piss Your Pants on 4th Down.

Well, I wanted Keenum to have a good game, but with the Texans winning. I got my wish, sort of, not sure the Texans deserved to win. Talk about a misleading record.

The Rams vs Saints turned into real football game.

Now the Packers have to show their meddle. Hopefully.

it would be nice if the lions line could block so Stafford wasn't sacked 10 times....
