Little Luxuries (SFW)

What little luxuries do you find yourself enjoying?

Pictures are welcome, but please do keep this thread safe for work.

Today I took a shower and washed my hair. That in itself is nice. But then I grabbed a different towel than I usually use. It's a bath sheet. I wrapped myself in it and felt incredible. The weight and warmth of the super soft terrycloth made me smile. I lounged around in it for some time.

fflowley Don't just do something, stand there!

I bring good chocolate to work (usually Ghirardelli) and have it after I eat my lunch.
It's 5 minutes of my day that I look forward to and always enjoy.

I enjoy grinding and making my own coffee.
So I've invested into this...and got my sister and cousin into it.

It's not that pricey on Amazon or such
It's separate from my coffee maker because grinders go bad periodically (sooner or later, the beans catch up with them...and people don't remember to clean them)
It allows variable size of grains...you can adjust how many cups you want.
The large container prevents you from having to load it as often.
The bottom part allows you to keep things clean and making a mess.

There's something about grinding your own beans fresh at home, without extravagant purchase.
For me it's Trader Joe's Dark Roast, with honey added in after brewing.
And sometimes I'll experiment with other tastes...but this is what I always come back to.

It's like morning wine to me.
Stimulating but relaxing at the same time.

Flannel sheets in the winter. Too hot in the summer, but just right for the chill. I run warm so my gf is buried under the sheet, blanket, and down comforter until she overheats sometime overnight. Then the comforter gets jammed against my back. But I just need the sheet until around 4 or 5 in the morning when I finally need the blanket. Or I pull the blanket over me to warm up in the morning for five minutes before I actually get out of bed.

My BF and I both like a cool bedroom, and he loves flannel sheets on his side and gets all rolled up like a burrito. I just like plain cotton. We both dislike satin or silk or anything clingy.:) We usually just sleep in some kind of nightshirt.:) We have an electric space heater w/remote so if we want a little morning whoopie the room warms right up. We have two adjustable extra long twin beds set together so it's like a king size. We can each have our own favorite sheets on each half and have a king size light blanket and comforter on top.

Having our own space as a family, rather than sharing with extended family, has been a delightful little luxury.

    I've developed a coke habit.

    Mexi-Coke

To my totally biased taste, it's what Coke used to taste like. Fortunately, it's readily available by the case around here.

Fresh cut seasonal flowers for our home.
And an afternoon spent with the kids absorbed in watercolors. IMG_20190223_204638_288.jpg

Every couple of weeks I have a maid come over for a few hours to hit all the details I don’t want to deal with.

Sure I know how to do it all.
But work is very intense, my brain is mush at the end of the day
    College on top of it
I want my free time for myself to let go and recover

So rather than be constantly cleaning and beating myself up about it...and still feel civilized
Much less satisfying the detailed eyes of family and dates
I do this to clean the gaps...the nooks and crannies

Fresh ground coffee on the weekends. Nothing elaborate as Rogue's gear, just a small grinder (that has more bells & whistles than a small grinder needs).

Angus Rib eye steak once in while. From Sam' Club because it's (sort of) affordable, and of much better quality than Kroger RES.

I love doing my own coffee. I'm always reminded of the rule of 15s:

    Babbie's Rule of Fifteens:
    • Green (unroasted) coffee beans should be roasted within 15 months, or they go stale.
    • Roasted coffee beans should be ground within 15 days, or they go stale.
    • Ground coffee should be used within 15 minutes, or it goes stale.
    • Extracted coffee should be served within 15 seconds.
So, I try not to grind too much at once. I'm also fortunate - one of my neighbours runs a local roastery, so whatever beans I buy are freshly roasted :)

My only time I grind a chunk is if I'm going camping - still need the coffee, just can't take the grinder!

My own 300 yard shooting range, but even better, I trashed my last piece of ugly, cheap furniture (an old overstuffed chair), and parked a new small practice amp next to my "man chair" in the living room. My gf hated that chair, so now she has something new to complain about. :D

    Mentioning gun range.....

For me, and my wife, visits are a luxury and an unspoken responsibility.

The range fee is very affordable, but ammo expenses add up very quickly.

OTOH if I'm ready to use guns to protect my family & property, and carry, I need to be reasonably proficient with my main firearms.

I use a Porlex grinder with an Aeropress for camping. You gotta work a bit for your coffee; but the coffee tastes very good and the two stack into a very small package.

    These days on Sunday mornings,
I'm enjoying a Brooklyn bagel with Extra lox, onion, tomato and cream cheese and an egg bagel...and a large dark roast coffee with vanilla.
Take my time...read a book and enjoy the surprisingly international patrons and windowed view.

My daughter has taken up volleyball, and several times a month she and my wife are gone the entire weekend, with traveling to the tournaments.

This means I have the house to myself without the worry that my wife will barge into the room and start an argument simply because that's what she does.

Seriously, this is like being single again. Pretty damned awesome.

You left out the very low chance getting caught having a

My luxury is that I have a weight cage that can handle 1500 lbs (not that I can lift that much) at home and about 600 pounds of weights, that I can lift without a whole gym of people staring at me. Woot. Sometimes being the strongest guy in a gym is tiresome, especially when you don't want to stop every 5 minutes to discuss what you are doing with the 'gym bros'. I go to a Planet Fitness for cardio and fluff work.
