I'm loving the fact that the internet/public is finally seeing corporate stances on social justice (mainly revolving around LGBT causes) for what it truly is:

Empty posturing aimed at scoring low-effort brownie points with middle-/upper-class segments in the West, that is dropped immediately when a matter of real magnitude (with corresponding economic consequences) shows up.

Beautiful to watch the realizations unfold. Let's see where it all goes.

It goes to the US Supreme Court and oral arguments earlier this week in three cases brought by workers who were fired for no other reason than being gay or transgender; the point of law being if the 1964 law that prohibits discrimination based on sex includes sexual orientation or gender identity.

Supreme Court clashes over meaning of ‘sex’ in LGBT discrimination cases

If you are really interested, the audio of the oral arguments will be available tomorrow. :)

We went out for a late lunch, and visited a couple of antiques stores, one of which is also a knife store.

My wife has been wanting a Kershaw Launch 4 (an automatic knife with a 1.9" blade), but for some reason hasn't found one she liked. I think the only one she was able handle in person was some gawdawful color.

Today she took a big step up to a Benchmade Impel. The Impel is quite a bit more $ than the Launch 4, but it's a better quality knife.

    What, no apple butter? :p

I had fresh apple butter years ago, and it was great (we didn't make it). I don't recall buying any cider, but I'd be all over it.

Cold weather, fresh apple cider, top shelf rum, spices........

Thanks, it does mean something, in a way.

It's weird. Nobody forced me to drink. That's a demon I created, or gave into, so I'm not sure being congratulated for keeping it at bay is appropriate. It's hard to explain.

My stepfather has been sober for probably 40 years. I do respect that you have taken personal responsibility to better yourself. Recognize your faults and work to make yourself a better person.

My dad will have 40 years on Oct 20th. My (late) ex-husband died drunk in a stupid drunken accident. I still go to Al-Anon occasionally. But I do drink. Once in a while, I even drink too much.

Any substance abuse/addiction issue can be complicated. There's a pretty good discussion in my old blog entry, and some discussion the membership sub-forum.

I also take the attitude that everyone has faults. No one completely has their shit together. They just manifest in different ways. So eveyone needs self-improvement. And everyone needs a hug and "good job" occasionally.

I enjoy a lot of varied kinds of music. Classical, Punk, Blues, Old-Time Jazz, Western Swing, Wind Band, Rockabilly, etc.:)
And I listen to music a lot, 'cause I rarely watch TV.:)
But I've never been able to get into Hip-Hop.
