Funny, my Dad never required us to fear him. His love was unconditional which is how I've always thought parental love should be. Sad if you had to grow up that way. :(

What does any of that have to do with the fear/love dynamic being common in the father/child relationship? Also, I think it's healthy and wise to have a reverent fear in certain instances.

Just because it's common doesn't make it right or healthy. Many a fucked up man out there tarring the little ass of their frightened kid for bringing home a "C" on their report card because that's the way their Daddy did it and damn if that poor kid doesn't try his best to bring that grade up to an "A" - shivering in their fucking little boots as they ride home on the bus with another "C" in their bookbag.

Yeah buddy, that's the way to raise a kid. Put the fear of God into 'em right beside the fear of a good whoopin'.

There's nothing inherently wrong with corporal punishment. To discipline out of anger is wrong. To discipline out of love is a good thing. God disciplines his children as any good father does.

Well obviously in some peoples mind love is hate, up is down and right is wrong. What's next? Dogs and cats living together?

Discipline does not require fear or corporal punishment.

  8. Eddie Getting Tilted

    No, but it evokes it.

If it evokes fear, the disciplinarian is going about it the wrong way. I think you might be confusing fear with respect.

  10. Eddie Getting Tilted

Being disciplined is often painful...which is where the fear comes in.

Wow. I missed a lot tonight.

What I've learned just now, though, is that Ron Paul is a faux libertarian, violence is a good form of discipline, and belief often leads to fear of the unknown.

    Cool.

Can we get back to OWS now?

Here's a list of today's activities and events in NYC:

Wish i could be there. It's a little frustrating living in a small town rural area.
Going to talk to some folks at our local liberal arts college and see if we can get something going.

This thread is not about Eddie. Stop making it about him. He's welcome to his opinions, and the personal attacks need to stop now.

Some great offerings. Matt Taibbi of course, bringing the hammer down and nailing the whole ugly thing smack on it's head.

    Love this from Barbara Kingsolver,

Wall Street Firms Spy on Protesters in Tax-Funded Center

Pro OWS or Anti OWS, one has to question why our tax dollars are being used by Wall Street.... Read it is very eye opening.

How else to explain $150 million of taxpayer money going to equip a government facility in lower Manhattan where Wall Street firms, serially charged with corruption, get to sit alongside the New York Police Department and spy on law abiding citizens.

Tell that to the woman that gets beaten daily for not having dinner on the table, or the child that didn't understand his homework and was too scared to ask because when he asks a question his father doesn't want to admit not knowing so he slaps the kid around, but he beats the kid not because he (the dad) doesn't understand but because the kid needs to learn to be self sufficient.

If you want to get into a "God shows love through fear" argument bring it on in a different thread and I'll be more than ready to give it a go. Fact I'll start the thread.

The OWS is far more Christian (in some aspects) than the so called "religious Right" and self proclaimed "Christians". They sold themselves out for 1 issue ABORTION. They bought into everything else, even if it goes in complete opposite of what Jesus taught. As long as the GOP is against abortion, all else is ok.

But of course when I bring this out to self proclaimed "Christians", I know NOTHING of the Bible. Yet, they can't show me where Jesus states interest is ok or not paying taxes is ok or the collection of money while others suffer is ok..... all of which I can show Jesus taught against.

Interest was so hated the Catholic Church condemned it, thus allowing the Jews to dominate it.... Meanwhile, ISLAM still has made it illegal. But they are the bad guys, all those human rights violations and all and bombings. Meanwhile, we just work to destroy from within those who we deem as despots. We bomb but do so in the name of what is righteous in the eyes of GOD. We hate those OWS people because they force us to look at what Jesus truly taught and how we sold our votes for 1 issue and we know that the GOP uses us to support those on Wall Street that go against everything Jesus preached. BUT HEY NO ABORTIONS.

All hail Wall Street, where MONEY is GOD, and the people that speak out need to be punished to see what a loving God is like.
