I'd suggest to wait until just after the Coronavirus impact and any cascading correction, them make your mark while most are still in a panic.
Then invest in those commodities or stocks that are stable and people “have to” have.
The others riskier/optional options can wait until it’s stabilized and growing normal. It’s the Warren Buffett method.

So Oil Companies, Banks, standard Food, Insurances, etc.
Real Estate and Pharma are questionable, they were under fire already.
Tech is optional unless you’re talking Apple, Intel, Oracle and Microsoft, the biggies
Those biz needs still for daily work and international operations.

Hope this helps, it's the same input I gave to another.
May you strike it rich. Now's the time for bold hearts...to strike when the time is right.

I may do the same with my bonus this year.
(thank goodness I work for a too big to fail firm now, the paycheck will keep coming in...and my role is more a commodity, not likely to be reduced)

    @Herculite followup
Another reason you may want to pause and wait until it just shakes out...and an advisement from one of the bigger financial firms...
Coronavirus will wipe out corporate profit growth in 2020 and may trigger recession: Goldman Sachs

People's 401Ks are going to get hit too.
Just like in Great Recession...it will build again, we're robust, it will just take time.
    Unfortunately, some can't wait.
Especially after getting hit with medical bills and other cascading consequences.

Coronavirus Will Test Our New Way of Life

    Yep, get ready
Some of our less than adequate or questionable methods may fail during this
9/11 proved our complacency...this may do more. (hopefully they don't overreact or under-react)

For example, this may be a factor...greed
Big Pharma May Pose an Obstacle to Vaccine Development

Insurance too...medical, life, employment, short-term/long-term job outage, etc...

We need to be warriors during this...if nothing happens, or little...fine, some time, mind and money is wasted. (we can recover that)
But if it goes the other way AND unprepared, we're screwed.
How to Confront the Coronavirus at Every Level

It will definitely be one for the history books.
Because the numbers are holding in all nations, including the US
3% death ~ 10% serious/critical (meaning, you won't die...but you will be messed up and put on your tail for some time...including any cascading impact from that)

If anything, this will be a logistical maze and obstacle course. Like American Ninja on steroids

Looks like many are starting to use Warren Buffett’s method and mindset

I wonder how many have read his bio, the Snowball?
    Fascinating...good tips

I’m waiting until near the end of the surge when it’s leveling off...then buy. But it’s a horse race, just like many other things. Everyone has got an opinion and angle.

Maybe I’ll try to rocket up like Coopers character in Limitless. I’m certainly thinking fast these days.
(Don’t know about the cleaning/organizing thing though...others are much more disciplined than moi :) )

Frankly, I’m just looking to survive this insanity.
It’s got my anxiety up...no panic, just being real.
    Calculating it all out, strategies

(I found some advice I wanted to pass along from another site.)

    From James Robb, MD.

(Dr. Robb was a professor of pathology at the University of California San Diego, and was one of the first molecular virologists in the world to work on coronaviruses in the 1970s.)

    1) NO HANDSHAKING! Use a fist bump, slight bow, elbow bump, etc.
    2) Use ONLY your knuckle to touch light switches. elevator buttons, etc.. Lift the gasoline dispenser with a paper towel or use a disposable glove.
    3) Open doors with your closed fist or hip – do not grasp the handle with your hand, unless there is no other way to open the door. Especially important on bathroom and post office/commercial doors.
    4) Use disinfectant wipes at the stores when they are available, including wiping the handle and child seat in grocery carts.
    5) Wash your hands with soap for 10-20 seconds and/or use a greater than 60% alcohol-based hand sanitizer whenever you return home from ANY activity that involves locations where other people have been.
    6) Keep a bottle of sanitizer available at each of your home’s entrances. AND in your car for use after getting gas or touching other contaminated objects when you can’t immediately wash your hands.
    7) If possible, cough or sneeze into a disposable tissue and discard. Use your elbow only if you have to. The clothing on your elbow will contain infectious virus that can be passed on for up to a week or more!

What I have stocked in preparation for the pandemic spread to the US:

    1) Latex or nitrile latex disposable gloves for use when going shopping, using the gasoline pump, and all other outside activity when you come in contact with contaminated areas.

Note: This virus is spread in large droplets by coughing and sneezing. This means that the air will not infect you! BUT all the surfaces where these droplets land are infectious for about a week on average – everything that is associated with infected people will be contaminated and potentially infectious. The virus is on surfaces and you will not be infected unless your unprotected face is directly coughed or sneezed upon. This virus only has cell receptors for lung cells (it only infects your lungs) The only way for the virus to infect you is through your nose or mouth via your hands or an infected cough or sneeze onto or into your nose or mouth.

    2) Stock up now with disposable surgical masks and use them to prevent you from touching your nose and/or mouth (We touch our nose/mouth 90X/day without knowing it!). This is the only way this virus can infect you – it is lung-specific. The mask will not prevent the virus in a direct sneeze from getting into your nose or mouth – it is only to keep you from touching your nose or mouth.
    3) Stock up now with hand sanitizers and latex/nitrile gloves (get the appropriate sizes for your family). The hand sanitizers must be alcohol-based and greater than 60% alcohol to be effective.
    4) Stock up now with zinc lozenges. These lozenges have been proven to be effective in blocking coronavirus (and most other viruses) from multiplying in your throat and nasopharynx. Use as directed several times each day when you begin to feel ANY “cold-like” symptoms beginning. It is best to lie down and let the lozenge dissolve in the back of your throat and nasopharynx. Cold-Eeze lozenges is one brand available, but there are other brands available.

(On a side note, it's annoying that my workplace needs dust masks for demolition jobs and we can't find any, because the locals have panicked and bought everything off the shelves. So, we'll probably be dead from black lung if the coronavirus doesn't kill us off first. On another side note, I'm looking at dying from coronavirus as another potential escape route out of my marriage.)

The difficulty is, conflicting instructions/guidance from science/medical sources....
    • Many are saying the sanitizers don't work against this virus. And the antibiotics make it worse for resistance.
    • Many are saying masks don't work vs the virus, sure to keep your hands away from face
      • (BUT having it on longer than 30 minutes moistens the mask and makes it EASY for the virus to grab on there and infect ya.)
      • AND since there's a shortage already, to not purchase them and leave them to health workers and facilities.
    • The incubation period isn't one week with this one...this one is 2-3 weeks.
    • Some scientist are saying the virus could be also airborne...could go thru raw food stuffs...and may even embed itself into porous walls and vents. (especially with moisture like AC)
    • It's all happening TOO fast and they don't have enough data yet.
Yes, gloves will help (some people may be allergic to latex...especially after extended wear)
I already use all the hand non-touching methods...including using my coat tails or shirt edges (WHY do so many places have VERY heavy restroom doors with stiff handles on the insides???)
Yes, zinc based aids "may" help (30-50%) of the time to prevent or shorten ALL colds
Some are even saying that it may be best to go to just canned and frozen foods temporarily. (eat like you're camping or in the army for a few months)

I'd just start using "universal precautions" like the hospitals use for contaminated patients.
Not THAT far...but you get the idea.

They say that his son is home schooled. do i believe that? dont know makes you wonder if they say that so people in schools dont panic or if its true.

side note...i got an email from my daughters school yesterday regarding their plan on the virus. she goes to a private school. i have not read it yet. i probably should..

We’re on a very leaky ship

It’s going to get water in it

    FYI
    Some serious reality

Only other nations aren’t going to do what China did
    Which was draconian but necessary
They have the military, police and mindset to do it.

And the US won’t do what other post-industrial nations will
While it’s dynamic and style is like Italy
Italy has national healthcare , the US doesn’t
So many who think they’re fine but carriers will continue to work and travel
Same with those who cannot take off work
Can’t afford to be sick (work or doc/hospital)
    Or don’t have insurance
    Or are just plain stubborn

The US is likely in trouble...

Putin must have blown an angel
He’s been loving life for 4 years

Conspiracy theorists blame the US for the Coronavirus...and China is happy to encourage them.
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/worl...875458-5dc8-11ea-ac50-18701e14e06d_story.html

Uhh, it’s called the Wuhan virus for a reason

I guess more than Putin is loving the “benefits” now
Xi is likely ramping up a CYA and redirection campaign

Unfortunately, US is a bit distracted now with the election and virus itself
And it’s leadership are like a deer in headlights

The US is ripe to be a scapegoat
No one will fight or bite back.

We’re back in the Cold War
    SSDD

Let’s just get they this madness
And keep a list of grievances to throw back
Right now, the US has got its hands full
The rest of the world is on its own
Which I’m sure they figured out by now anyway

The local news is in a frenzy. Seems two people at Rice University have tested positive, believed to have picked up the virus on a trip to Egypt.

In the last two weeks my wife has made two trips to Washington, DC, which I'm guessing is probably the most international city in the USA.

DC we’re “under control”, so far. Only a few potential but no confirmed...reported.
I am aware of one unreported and confirmed in NOVA
But I think that was repressed, from what I understand with my connections.

Nothing that’s blown up yet. But the Cherry Blossom Festival is supposed to be soon. However many are canceling their travel plans. As I did for my mom visiting.

My own company’s COO announcement to ban today international travel for now. Domestic flights are only approved by executives. They’re encouraging people to work remote, as I do already. And they’re minimizing any in person meetings, doing conference calls instead.

    It’s getting REAL.

I am wondering how effective these test kits are that they seem to be making out of thin air. And to claim to have a million ready to go by the end of the week? What lab has the capacity to go through that many in a day or two? Or is it one where you just have to spit on a stick or something?

It is a weird virus though. It doesn't seem to be spreading as fast as it did in Wuhan, and while it is traveling around the world and there could be a lot of unknown cases or untested cases, the total number of confirmed cases seems to be tapering off.

Thousands of US residents have been asked by state governments to 'self-quarantine.' Here's what that looks like — CNN

From what I saw in the bar last night
People are going to have to adjust exponentially

We’re still swarming around like maggots

I think that’s my last restaurant visit for awhile
I guess I’ll save lots of money
Time to get my gourmet on
    Improve my cooking

    It’s going to be weird

It’s certainly not slowing down, it’s just more spread out
Think of like a forest fire, there’s smoldering periods and then there’s flare ups, then finally firestorms.

Make sure you wash your produce (and your hands) when cooking. Especially if you get your groceries delivered.. it’s gonna get real interesting for sure. I work in healthcare, and our entire hospital system is just behind on having a real plan should it appear here.
