just checking in.....while Washington seemed to be a hot start area, things change as history is rewritten. I live in a semi-rural county with 260,000 people and on an island with 20,000 residents.... as of yesterday our county has 170 confirmed case's and 2 dead. I credit our Governor Jay Inslee with the leadership that helped contain the outbreak ! (tRUMP referred to him as a "SNAKE")

No, not specifically you CN. My apologies. Truly.

I meant in general and to say there IS a choice.
It’s not ambiguous, it’s fairly clear.

I don’t like it, no one does.
But the alternative has been proven again and again.
    Until we have an antivirus.

Going back and forth on the matter as some are
It’s just going to create more pain, if not more.

Sweden’s solution of nothing is triple their neighbor’s counts.
I don’t want to imagine tripling what the US has now.
Instead of 60,000 dead...we have 180,000 in just one month really.
And to be real, that 60,000 is likely underreported
Stats are now showing it’s likely double that in truth.
    120,000 dead conservatively
So that would make it almost 400,000 by doing nothing.
    And that’s just deaths...
Those in the hospital with severe or critical but not dying, is 15% compared to 5% terminal
So those totally messed up, maybe even permanently
    That’s
180,000 really ill and impact (doing something like quarantine)
Or with the lag in counts 360,000
Or by doing nothing...540,000 or over 1 million.

We’re lucky we decided to do something
We’d be even luckier, if we had done it earlier.
In January or February when we were warned.

    But people are “inconvenienced”
Well, nothing inconveniences as much as being dead.

    ——

To answer your hope...unfortunately that’s unlikely
One, the virus will have another wave...most say this.
Two, we’re adding to it...with the reopenings.

It’s likely going to be worse in the 2nd wave.
Especially since flu/cold season will be adding to it.

As you said, I hope I’m wrong
But unfortunately, I haven’t been yet.

    ——

What I hope for is the fact everyone in the world...scientists and medical is looking for a drug as a solution. This will be the big assist...groupthink
Full focus...necessity is the mother of invention.

I hope we’re able to discover it fast...faster.
Manufacturer it, distribute as fast as possible.
Inoculate the total population, or most.

    That’s what I hope for.
    That’s real.
    That’s what we need.

In case you missed Cuomo's alternative is death quote.

    View: https://twitter.com/CBSNews/status/1253013143732858881?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1253013143732858881

REPORTER: What if someone commits suicide because they can’t pay their bills?

CUOMO: Yeah, but the illnesses may be my death as opposed to your death. You said they said the cure is worse than the illness. The illness is death. How can the cure be worse than the illness if the illness is potential death?

REPORTER: What if the economy failing equals death because of mental illness, the people stuck at home.

CUOMO: No it doesn’t. It doesn’t equal death. Economic hardship, yes, very bad. Not death. Emotional stress from being locked in a house, very bad, not death. Domestic violence is on the increase. Very bad, not death, and not death of someone else. See that’s what we have to factor into this equation. Yeah, it’s your life. Do whatever you want, but you’re not responsible for my life. You have a responsibility to me. It’s not just about you. You have a responsibility to me, right? We started here saying it’s not about me, it’s about we. Get your head around the ‘we’ concept. So it’s not all about you, it’s about me too. It’s about we.

Also, I get the economic hardship. Everybody gets it. Everybody feels it. The federal government is sending out a check for individuals - $600, an additional $1200. We are moving heaven and earth to get the unemployment payments going, so we get the economic anxiety. The question is how do you respond to it, and do you respond to it in a way that jeopardizes public health and possibly causes more people to die?

Think about it as if it’s your family that might get infected, right? That’s what we’re talking about. When you think about it as your family, you have a different perspective. I’ll tell you the truth. It’s not an abstract argument where they say he says she says, he says, she says. I know that’s how it works. Protesters say this. Governor says this.

When I see 484 New Yorkers dying, I feel like it’s people in my family, and nothing comes before the public health risk of someone else’s life, and that’s where we are.

REPORTER:: They’re also saying, if you can’t afford to pay me unemployment or your system is not set up ---

CUOMO: You will be paid unemployment

REPORTER: But they can’t wait for the money. They’re out of money.

CUOMO: We’re talking about a couple of days lag on the unemployment insurance, and they will get the check from the date of unemployment. It does not cost them an extra penny. Now they can say unemployment insurance is not enough. I get it. Even with the $600 check and the $1200 check, unemployment insurance benefit is not enough. I understand the economic hardship. We all feel it. The question is what do we do about it? Do you put public health at risk? Do you drive up the number of deaths? Because you have no idea how to reopen now?

REPORTER: They’re saying is there a fundamental right to work if the government can’t get me the money when I need it?

CUOMO: You want to go to work? Go take a job as an essential worker. Do it tomorrow, right? You’re working. You’re an essential worker, so go take a job as an essential worker.

REPORTER: But people aren’t hiring because of....

CUOMO: There are people hiring. You can go to work as an essential worker. So now you can go to work and you’re an essential worker, and you’re not going to kill anyone.

Yes, we have seen it happen on numerous occasions. That is why someone set out to prove it is happening in relation to covid-19.

I think it's really important to inform the public that this is happening. Often. And back it up with data.

I do think that there should be a significant effort to filter out these bots better. But there are plenty of specialized individuals working on solving that problem.

here in GA, as of yesterday we have 25,955 confirmed cases, and 1052 deaths. in the county i live in we have 693 confirmed cases, and 24 deaths. but the kicker is the county i work in has the most of every county in the state with 2786 cases, and 108 deaths. thats proablly due to the county i work in is mostly in the city limits of Atlanta.

Yes, it has been going on for awhile.
And it has significantly increased during this crisis.
As they’re taking advantage while we’re down and distracted.

From what my connections in the government say
We’re likely going to take retribution after the crisis is over.
But this won’t likely happen until next year, especially with an administration change, which isn’t as cozy as the current.
It will likely be a combination of cyberwar/Cold War.

Right, now...the only ones that are capable of stopping or addressing bots and hackers are the sites and vendors themselves.

Let’s hope they redouble their efforts locking it down.
However, they are also distracted by the virus and their support teams have less people to work with.

    It’s a vicious cycle.
Both the virus and hacker attackers

Add to that many people look for news, stories, information, etc that supports what they think and believe.

One of my sisters is very internet savvy, but she searches out only sites that support her beliefs. She totally buys into the idea that respected news sources known for accuracy and neutrality are sources of "fake news." But if one of "her" sources reports something highly questionable (at best) it's the gospel. Example: Try to explain to her the Republicans signed off on Obama care, and later Trump and the Republicans leaders couldn't come up a better plan.

Both groups make easy targets for the cyber manipulation attacks. What's the old Nazi trick, a lie repeated often enough becomes the truth?

What this virus is doing, is revealing the weaknesses in our system, culture and people

Like a crucible, burning it down to reveal dark insides and basic elements.

    Insurance that doesn’t pay
    News that isn’t truthful
Government that supposed to help but doesn’t
What others truly think about you and if they care.

It’s much grit and gristle, the fat underbelly

The question is, when we cure the virus
Can we fix the other illnesses it revealed???

Will we stand up and do the right thing?

    The virus is a catalyst
    Doesn’t solve the underlying infection.

I hope we can get some good out of this tragedy.

As most of you know, I'm in branch banking. Smaller branch, only 5 of us plus a loan officer for the entire branch. We are considered essential so have been working the entire time. Saturday, one of my coworkers tested positive. So now the branch is shut down and we are quarantined for the next two work weeks. Still getting paid, but otherwise twiddling our thumbs. A little disappointing, because the company was paying us a 20% bump to be at the branch for higher risk. I'm not complaining, I have a job and am still getting paid, but every little bit helps. I feel fine, thank you for asking.

Houston man tests positive for COVID-19 three times over two months

HOUSTON - Since March 19th, Christian Bermea has been battling coronavirus COVID-19 from his Houston-area apartment.

According to the 26-year-old, he tested positive for COVID-19 again on April 13th and May 1st. While he doesn’t feel as sick as he originally did more than 50 days ago, Bermea says he does still have some symptoms.

“I’m ready for it to be done,” said Bermea. “I definitely feel a lot better than I did at the beginning, but I’m still not at 100 percent. My smell isn’t as good as it used to be, fatigue, and shortness of breath.”

Despite not having a fever in several days, Bermea has continued self-isolation.

“Fifty-two days and counting,” said Bermea. “This virus isn’t just a physical process, it’s a mental one too. You’re almost stuck with your thoughts. I’m scared because there’s still a virus inside me.”

I'm glad to see he has the good sense to self isolate.

Some people might still believe business as usual and let the virus run its course is better than "hiding at home.". If we could only isolate those people and let the virus run its course.

My wife received some news at her school before it was supposed to be announced. The church music director, and two people in the church office, were officially laid off; they were "on furlough."

The school director/principal didn't know. She already had a meeting with the church priest, who's also the Power That Is, scheduled for tomorrow. It should be interesting, to say the least.

Two positive thoughts. My wife has acted acted as de facto assistant principal on a couple of important projects, and still does in several ways. The actual AP has already said he won't be returning for the next school year.

Negative thought. The school front office is admin heavy. Two positions could easily be combined, or each cut to part time. The chances of that happening appear slim.

Australian news reporting that our unemployed number went up by 1 million people since mid March (that's about 1/12th of our entire workforce). Sadly, the economic flow on from this is going to probably be longer lasting than the medical effects (the medical effects are admittedly much better in Oz than elsewhere). At the moment be happy with any job you have, any government hand out you can get and for any savings you have squirreled away. I think we are a long way from returning to "normal".

One of my sisters is using various social media to repeat a bullshit story about a US scientist being arrested for helping the Chinese develop Covid-19. The arrest is true, but it's old news that has nothing to do with Covid-19.

Why? It supports what Trump is hypothesizing.
