Thank you drunks, hangry, and hairstyle challened Wiconsinites and Indianans for being the test group to see what happens when you just can't stay at home. Special shoutout to all you preppers out there. Hope those BIG guns will protect your micro penises from the Covid. And let's not forget all the preachers who are willing to make their parishioners test beds for god's laboratory.

Well, damn...I don’t care about most black market activity.
Hell, my grandpa’s family made millions by speakeasy chains. (No I don’t have the money)

But these people become super spreaders
    Bringing that crud everywhere
Including people that are not involved
    (Mass transit and everything)

Listen, I don’t care if people damage or kill themselves.
But I do care if they inflict it on others.

    Smoking inside
    Drunk driving
Large groups in a fuckin plague

    You want YOUR freedom
    But you’re forgetting THEIR freedom.

Freedom from dying or getting hurt.

    Tell ya what
We’ll compromise...we’ll just machine gun all the patrons...after the party
    Then they wouldn’t kill anyone.
They get their freedom, doesn’t disturb others’ freedoms.
    Sound fair???

Sounds like I’m an asshole right??
Well, shoe's on the other foot...assholes.

When people want to float the idea that taking appropriate steps against the pandemic are unconstitutional.
Beau explains what the Founding Fathers actually did and how the 10th Amendment is as important as the other nine.

Lots of people have not read the constitution since they were in grade school. I re-read it from time to time because I want to make sure I'm understanding of who is empowered to do such things and who is not.

That’s one of the benefits of living near DC
There’s events and a mindset that focuses and reinforces the Constitution and how the Federal government works.

Many who live here love and have a background in Federal history and politics. It’s kinda like a hobby for many.

Now the question is...how they decide to leverage that knowledge. But I noticed most “buffs” here tend to lean centrist or left.

There’s a difference between the politicians and the bureaucrats with all the others that staff the government. Politicians follow whatever their base is in their home state...but they are a small fraction of the whole population.

Unfortunately, for this crisis...it’s the politicians that make the laws and give the overall direction. Although the bureaucrats do try to “steer” it as much as they can.

But to offset this, you have Trump supporters in places like Pennsylvania that still think he is doing an awesome job. From the outside looking in, I'm with you - he is certifiable. Why don't his supporters see this?

A large portion of his supporters are contrarians. If something/anything goes against the flow, even goes against good health sense, they're all in. Defiance for the sake of being defiant. As the old expression goes "cutting off your nose to spite your face."

    Add in ignorance and gullibility.

    And...

The contrarians see them selves as outsiders. And they take great pride in being outsiders. Trump ran as an outsider*, and became "their" candidate, and "their" president.

Trump's base refuses to see his shortcomings because that would mean they're wrong to support him, and they are not wrong. Therefore Trump is not wrong. This ties into what cynthetiq already posted.

*IMO a person didn't need to be esp intelligent and/or politically savvy to see that Trump had a conservative right pro-business agenda. He didn't "drain the swamp," he filled it with people from the industries that they are supposed to be regulating. And left positions open so that no real regulating, or pretense of, takes place.

I'll stop my Shyster Trump rant. It belongs in the Politics threads.

    Poor church.

It owns the largest & most priceless art collection in the world.

Its collection of important books, journals, maps, charts, documents, etc. is also the largest in the world.

Its slush fund and legal issues fund are the (among the) largest in the world.
