"The Bible" is supposed to be capitalized, chief. Should I stop taking you seriously too? Question: Would you have responded if she hadn't struck that s?

No, because she has consistently shown here and in other threads that she doesn't know the bible very well...aside from what she googles out of TFP necessity. This wouldn't be a problem but she continues to use the bible as a source for her arguments.

This is both fallacious and counter to the spirit of a discussion forum.

Are you relinquishing the discussion entirely?

Oh look, someone claiming to be an authority on the BIBLE (CAPS!!!) without providing any proof whatsoever. We're all supposed to take it on faith (get it?) that you're the defacto TFP Bible expert, Eddie?

I don't know why you guys doubt Eddie's credibility as a christian. In his time here he's clearly displayed a casual disregard for the downtrodden and an ability to judge folk he's never met based on their identification with various political movements. Judging people and ignoring the plight of those less fortunate are pretty much the main takeaways of chist's message. Plus, he totally thinks nonbelievers are going to hell. In other words, piss off, heathens.

interpret it how you want. i doubt alot of christians are saying "yeah, i like being christian because fuck the little guy and i get to choose who is good and who sucks" at least thats not how i was brought up.

I think a lot of people are saying "Yeah, I'm a good christian. Everyone else is going to hell. And on a completely unrelated note, those who are poor deserve it, fuck them and fuck everyone whose lifestyle I disagree with."

There is a pretty wide discrepancy between some of the things that christ taught and some of the things that christians do. This seems especially true for the loudest, "Look at me I'm so christian and you're going to hell" types of christians.

I have reasons to suspect that I'm more Christ-like than a lot of Christians.

Too bad you're going to hell, then, I guess.

That's the ultimate irony of the Christian faith: "Sending good people to hell since ~50 AD"

    The Dalai Lama?

Going to hell, that Marxist motherfucker.

  12. Eddie Getting Tilted

"Good" means nothing. It's the most subjective form of justification out there.

Also, that depends on what the meaning of is is.

Well, I wasn't expecting a debate on the naturalistic fallacy in this thread, but OK.

I'd agree that "goodness" is subjective, and is also not a permanent state, even subjectively.

But we still know what it means .. especially as used in this thread and in the statement quoted :p

  15. Eddie Getting Tilted

Well, the fact of the matter is, God is perfect, heaven is perfect and perfection is required to be in God's presence. You can't add imperfection to perfection....otherwise what was perfect would no longer be perfect. "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." We fall short, no matter how "good" we are. Eternal life requires a perfect quality of life...and that is only possible through Christ.

I had a full Catholic education that included Bible studies 3 - 4x a week. I've read it cover to cover and am quite familiar with it. I've also researched errors in translation, of which there are many. I was instructed to take it literally by most of the nuns and Brothers at my school. With the exception of one Brother who taught me how to read it with an open mind. Revelation or Revelations (is that the best you can do) was not part of any course study. The parish in charge of the school considered it the writings of a mad man as do all but the evangelical.

I don't give a shit if you give it weight or not. Someone who believes Christ's suggested path to salvation is easy obviously puts weight in little.

Let me clarify: Christianity doesn't have a monopoly on morality.

  19. Eddie Getting Tilted

Morals or a lack thereof have no bearing on a person's salvation. You can't impress God in order to get into heaven. This is the creator we're talking about. If salvation is going to come from anyone it's Him...not by us doing anything.

Wow, you must be a recent convert. Never in the history of Christianity has anyone ever said there were no strings and no moral imperatives. Never fucking ever. I'd go back to the nimrod who sold you this nonsense and I'd get my money back.
