Unfortunately, THIS is not the only stupid thing...
    They haven't stopped being stupid.
    They embrace stupid
They cheer stupid on...like it's a point of pride.
And they'll continue to be stupid.

If one of your own says, "We got to stop being the stupid party"
Then you double down and continue even harder,
then you're a loss...until you hit rock bottom and realize you need to save yourself...or you die.
(Here, quite literally...not just your lost party)

Mike Lee, Thom Tillis, and Ron Johnson (all three of whom are on the judiciary committee) all tested positive. I have to wonder who else hasn't yet.

The Senate is now in recess until October 19th.

It's suddenly more likely that ACB does not get on the court until after the election.

Longtime Republican strategists behind the Lincoln Project mounting rogue offensive against Donald Trump

    Country over party
    This is to be respected
    This is patriotic

    To see a danger, a corruption...and act.

I’ve always said, I’ve got some conservative values
It’s just how they won, how they executed, what they said wasn’t like the values they spouted.

Here, they’re trying to bring it back, to a good place.

But they realize they have to get rid of the cancer, the infection first.
    Then rebuild

AND play hardball...as hard or harder than the other side. It’s war. Gun to gun, battle to battle.
Storming the beach, put them into submission.
The other side isn’t going to play “nice”,
It’s gone beyond nice and polite

We saw that up front in the first debate.
And it’s worse behind the scenes
God knows what is going on.

    Bravo to them
And bravo to the Debate Commission for not being bullied.

Sometimes you just have to punch back.
Sometimes you have to do more.
    It’s not fair
But it’s not fair that we were put in this in the first place

    T could have been honorable
He wasn’t and isn’t and won’t ever be.

    Fight fire with Fire.

Now if they can convince their "fellow" Republicans that compromise and bipartisan politics work much better in the long run than steadfastly supporting even the most idiotic Republican out of blind loyalty.

And let's not forget a Democratic backlash won't help matters.

For some reason I don't understand, the news media keeps focusing on the Republicans saying the Democrats won't answer the question: Will they try to lead the Supreme Court?

First and foremost, it's a stupid question. Historically the party that controls the White House and the Senate confirms judges who reflect their platform. Well, duh.

But are the Republicans conceding, in a way, a shift in political power?

It’s not just “lead”...but they’re really wondering if they’ll “pack” the court.
Meaning add 1 or more justices to the total
And attempt to balance out the court

Mostly because the GOP (McConnell) denied placing a Democrat onto the court, 10 months before the election...saying that it was too close and the people should vote...and the next prez should put them in.

And now...just a few weeks before, changing his tune 180 degrees, pushing in a radial conservative.
    Double standard, most definitely, hypocrisy.
And the GOP has been playing this game for awhile.

Biden is hesitant about packing the court, from what it sounds like...Harris might be of another mind.
But they don’t want to commit either way before the election.
One, not to show their hand...the GOP would do the same
Two, the decision could be used against them
Either firing up the GOP or chasing away the lib Dems.

McConnell, knowing that he’s likely to lose Senate majority...he’s trying to get as many conservative judges in as he can beforehand. (Not packing, but getting them thru approval)

You’ll start seeing the Dems to play hardball vs the GOP now...
Just the same as the GOP did to them.
No such thing as fair anymore
    Just M.A.D.

Autocorrect put in "lead" I wrote load.

And I still don't understand why packing the SC is even a question, the answer is clearly yes.

I suppose the Republicans are trying to scare voters away from turning Democrat.

McConnell refused to seat judges during Obama's term so he could pack the courts. Turnabout is fair play and needs to happen. Conservative politics need to be destroyed in this country and prevented from returning, and the trolls and supporters need to suffer the the consequences of cheating.

    Followup...
Biden says that he's 'not a fan' of packing the Supreme Court but doesn't want it to be the 'focus' of this election cycle

Frankly, as we've seen for most politicians...they can flip at anytime, and rationalize it anyway.
So Biden here, gives an indicator...but no guarantees. He could be just not wanting to light a fire under the GOP.
Either way, we'll see if he wins and soonest, it will be next year for proof of path.
Fair or unfair, justified or not.

    Opinion | R.I.P., G.O.P.

A savage piece by the NYT editorial board.

The GOP has lost most integrity and credibility...and it's collapsing in on itself.
People other than its tribal base are seeing it for what it is.
And it's often succeeding only by Dick Dastardly tricks and ploys.

Not that the current Dems are perfect by any means...but it certainly isn't equivalent.

I don't think it's going to die...there's been massive corruption before.
But the GOP needs to get back to its roots and real values.
Shake off the twisted groups that had latched onto it. (the extremists, racists, ultra-religious, etc)
Re-embrace intellectualism...not power for its own sake.

If you call yourself the party of Lincoln, then espouse to be like his ideal. WWLD?

The states are middle-right...they are capitalist, they are minimalist in government, they are libertarian, etc...they've got an advantage, IF they think and act efficiently.
HOWEVER, they have to realize that the demographics have changed. It's is NOT a old white christian man's world anymore.
You have to represent ALL kinds.

If you say you're libertarian then get the hell out of people's business (yes, this means abortion, porn and all your lordly traps you've catered to also)
If you say you're fiscally conservative, then stop over-spending.
If you say you're wanting no activist courts, then stop packing the courts with your judges.

But, you do have to realize, there needs to be some safety net.
There needs to be some healthcare management
There needs to some government regulation and intervention (including on guns)
    Government is NOT going away.
    Why??
Because life is hard and people are dicks (corporations too)

The GOP can't be just about police, prisons and military...and all that is a hammer on folks to an authoritarian anvil.
You say "Freedom", then you gotta allow for it.

They are going to have to have some serious soul searching.
Because the system wants no chaos and lots of efficiency.
    Your current cadre isn't solid.
    They ARE the swamp.
And the boat is leaking from rot.

    New slogan for the GOP:

We are the Grand Old Party. We are here to protect your money, your privilege, and your position. As long as you are white. We are the Grand Old Party.

"The biggest takeaway from the election is that there are literally tens-of-millions of American citizens who watched four long years of Trump's assault on humanity and democracy and made the conscious decision to give him four more years"

Here is the problem for the GOP
Same as the Dems after the Civil War
Your opposition now knows how far you’ll go.

So expect them to not respect you anymore
They may do everything they want and not play together well
    Because you did the same
    Fair begets fair
    Trust begets trust
    Respect begets respect

You may see them fully leverage their majority status
Including even more so in the coming elections
    You could lose more

The media will also not respect equivalence anymore
Knowing what you did and where you’d take it
Most don’t favor you, except for a few.

The money is flowing into the Dems from what’s been seen statistically

This will be a war of attrition
And death by a thousand cuts...slowly

The real trouble for the GOP putting T as the face
He said the quiet part out loud
And so did you in return and support

They know your dark side now
    And there will be consequences
No more benefit of the doubt.

Y’know, in the end...there might be 3-4 parties
One or two in the center (right/left)
1 for each more extreme, right and left

Right now, the Dems are center or center right
The ultra progressives are being left out or ignored
And the full right and the ensnared GOP are being pushed away

But the majority is starting to play hardball too.
Even more so than they did before

    America has a dark side
Question is, will it be allowed to survive??

    I will never underestimate the
"I want it all, right now, and I want to keep all of it"
    greed of US Americans.

    When palatable
"You can have it all, right now, and keep all of it"
Republican candidates run they will largely get elected.

The question will be if anyone can match the celebrity status of Trump in the future. There are more diehard conservatives for sure, but when he isn't on the ballot, I'm not sure how many of the infrequent conservatives will show up to vote.

I would have bet that Trump would have lost a lot more votes than the final popular vote totals showed. That is what surprised me. I would have guessed he would have gotten 55-60 million.

And until we get ranked choice voting at the national level, I don't see third parties happening. You might see much bigger primary battles though.

    Something major? Covert?

Or just Trump being petulant? His team lost, and he knows (subconsciously?) that he can't change the score, so he lashes out at those who questioned his comments and stands. To use a sports metaphor Trump would be owner, general manager, head coach, and star player. Not having the attention span to be even barely competent in just one position hasn't stopped Trump.

Researcher mapped the GOP's march toward authoritarianism. TLDR; it's started in the 1980s and sharply accelerated with The Tea Party

    No shit
    It’s almost cartoonish...like Dick Dastardly
If it weren’t so real...with impact.

I do like old school conservative values...

BUT they have become very much like Russia or China
    It’s about party over nation
    Any means to an end
And the words coming out are outlandish and vicious

I want the old school honorable GOP back
Kinda like George Bush Sr. was.
