I don't know what the latest treatment options or advice is, but I think I heard that starting treatment earlier produces better outcomes. You might suggest that he try and get some medicine today at a minimum.

The school where my wife teaches had a teacher test positive.

I can't claim to know all of the details, or their full covid-19 policies and protocols. I do know based on what my wife has said, the concerns expressed by other teachers, and what I overheard, the principal is "interpreting" protocols in favor of keeping everything business as usual.

There is a shortage of substitute teachers. Trying to rearrange strained schedules (teachers are already having to cover in-person, and virtual, classes) is a major task, and ultimately some teachers will shoulder way too much of the burden. Teachers under quarantine are wanting to know why their virtual learning efforts are not counting as work days, so that those days don't count against protocol allowances, vacation and personal days, etc.

The school is expected operate at a profit, which of course makes sense. But times are not normal. The huge religious organization behind the school could lose billions of dollars and not actually feel it (literally). And they perhaps it is, worldwide.

One of my coworkers is sick with it.
Her daughter was working for Target and got sick along with a number of her coworkers, brought it home to mom.
I only ever saw her online so there was never any threat of me getting it but I really feel bad for her.
She is not in good shape.

“No one is listening to us”: The third surge of COVID-19 is breaking health-care workers — The Atlantic

    Many People are selfish pricks
    With short memories

They think health is just magic

    And often leaders are worse.

This stuff isn’t going to cure itself
    Medicine isn’t infinite

And while everyone been focused on the election
    The virus keeps going

And our resources and medical workers cannot.

    Doctors
    Nurse
    Techs
    Etc

    All are human
    Vulnerable and exhausted

Frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised if they just say
    fuck it
    Go die.

Because that’s what your many of your leaders have said
    Fuck it, go die.

What??? You think they’re thinking about you now?
You think they’re thinking about medical?

    Nope, that’s for next year
    Good luck with the virus

    Because, winter is coming...

The Washington Post published an article reporting the spread of covid-19 among the Secret Service agents and other White House staffers.

You could use a stack of thesauruses and still not have enough words to describe Trump's disregard for the seriousness of covid-19 and the health of those working closely with him. Is it ignorance, or the callousness of a totally self-centered narcissist?

Elon Musk’s Covid-19 Tests: Tesla CEO Says He Tests Both Positive and Negative

The main hospital in our town now has 90 COVID patients. 10 in ICU, none intubated. the other 80 are doing well on oxygen only.

@rogue49 my daughter is a respiratory therapist and is definitely getting worn out, but has said taking care of the patients now compare to April is much more under control. She plans on a 2 week holiday during Christmas. I tell her she is warrior all the time. She is use to wearing all the PPE. She works in NICU...babies, ICU and ER.

By the way, respiratory therapist are on the front of the line...they are the ones that keep the patients alive. They manage the oxygen levels and ventilators. She said all it takes is 5 minutes of not monitoring the patients in ICU and you can lose them.

On Friday Trump threatened to withhold the vaccination from NY state (most likely moot unless the vaccination miraculously becomes available before 20 Jan 21) because Cuomo has assembled a panel of experts to review the data before NY would distribute the vaccination.

But several other states have done the same thing.

And the NY panel will review the data simultaneously as the FDA, hence no delay.

    Being easily butthurt,
and reacting in petty and vengeful ways,
    is Trump 's trademark,
but doing so with a covid-19 vaccination is criminal.

Of course he didn't comment on the nationwide surge, the situation with the secret service, and didn't take questions.

I don't understand how anyone, short of people who are seriously cognitively challenged, can continue to support this asshole.

One of my wife's family members in the US still supports him. Mostly because during his presidency they're a little better off financially and due to his foreign policy.
So apparently a couple of 100 000 lives and well, democracy in general is worth like $2000 a year. I don't get it either.

  14. I've been mentioning this for a while now to friends and family. The long term effects are not known. But there are so many people risking it all because they see people survive it. I've seen so many co-workers say they are tired of living in the house and go out to restaurants. Just to get regular life back. They go out shopping. And then they get sick. And have lingering symptoms afterwards.

    Just.... sit..... down.

I have a 1 in 800 chance of dying if I catch the virus, which is pretty low. My chances of dying from something else based on my age is 1 in 400.

However, it is the 1 in 25 chance of needing hospitalization, organ transplants, or just lingering symptoms for months that I fear. This is Day 14 of my self-imposed isolation away from other humans so it will be safe for me to travel and be around my family from Thanksgiving to New Years, who is also staying away from people (although not quite to the same extent, but good enough). They don't wear a biohazard suit to shop...but have started doing the curbside grocery shopping thing.

A group of teachers went over the principal's (TP) head, and TP was forced by the church and the health department to quarantine several people.

Another exposure situation arose and this time a greater number of students were quarantined and assigned virtual learning. The huge issue is the email to the affected families went out late Sunday afternoon (it went out to the teachers and staff even later), which understandably upset many parents.

And it appears that TP is again loosely interpreting what constitutes exposure. My wife mentioned possibly needing a covid test, and I strongly suggested that she and the other teachers and staff request/demand being tested.

Crossing your fingers and hoping for the best is bad and dangerous policy.
Interpreting guidelines and protocol to avoid facing reality is really dangerous policy.

    Some positive news
The drug development system isn’t broken. Covid-19 shows it has never worked better.

And we've got 2 anti-virus coming out from US manufacturers (Pfizer and Moderna)
And a good one that I've been keeping an eye on, from the UK. (Astra-Zenaca)
Both nations have pre-purchased millions from all 3...as I'm sure other nations have.
All should be out early in Dec...and en mass by Feb/Mar

The only others I've heard about are from Russia and China...but their methods and testing have been sketchy at best.
Any others I haven't mentioned coming from other nations??

But the industry altogether has worked at incredible pace.
    Usually it takes years.

    And other good news...
FDA authorizes first at-home coronavirus test
I wonder how accurate it is.
But this will help...many are private or busy...at home is a big mindset for quite a few

Here is the official list I am following. Canada has a few vaccines as well as some other countries and companies.

    Coronavirus Vaccine Tracker

This is an impressive effort of the medical research industry to get this done, even if I don't think there is any need to give placebo shots to people since the general population will act as the control.

I just hope that the research they are doing will be able to be used to vaccinate against other colds too. While I have no plans to put myself at risk to get Covid-19, I do wonder if the many, many colds and sore throats I have had in the past would help fight it off.

And I saw the plan on who will get access to the vaccine first, and is a decent plan, but I wonder if rich people will be able to pay for it in order to get it sooner, as well as what the plan is once they open it up to Phase 4 people (everyone else) if there is more demand than supply. Will it become a wait in line situation, or a lottery? Or will there be enough people who don't want the vaccine that it won't be an issue?
