Brandy, the bestest doggo three kids learning to walk could ever have. She was so patient with them when they'd pull up on her. Only time I ever saw her "mad" was once when my oldest was toddling around. I heard her groan as he used her to stand up. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw her reach out with a paw and push him over. He just got back up and walked away. I looked at Brandy and she had that, "I HAD to do it, dad!" look on her face. Made me laugh.

Unfortunately cancer got him about a year ago. In March 2019 he had what we thought were some minor issues and the vet ended up recommending a biopsy. He had a rare and aggressive form of cancer. The vet referred us to an oncologist vet, where he was given 8-12 weeks to live. If we wanted to do intense treatment, costing $26k, they said he'd probably make it 9 months, but had less than a 5% chance of making it 12 months. Meanwhile he would've had to have weekly treatments which would've impacted his quality of life. We decided to just do our best to make his life as comfortable as possible. As it turns out, he made it 8 months, and for all but the last week or so he was in great spirits, still wanted to run, eat, play, and seemed happy. Once it was time, our vet came to our house for it. He gave him a shot to calm Stanley down, Stanley fell asleep and started snoring, and then he gave him the shot that finished it. Tough time, but went as well as those things can go. In the end, Stanley made it 10.5 years, and was super healthy and strong the first 10. Bullmastiffs typically live 8-10 years, and the last couple of years can be rough due to bad joints and such, so he had an awesome life altogether.

Once we knew Stanley's time was short, we searched for breeders and found a place we wanted to get an English Mastiff from.

We got one of this guy's sons:

    His name is Waylon:

    8 weeks old:

About 16 weeks, surrounding himself with all his bones:

    About 6 months old:

This was a week or so ago, he's taken to carrying around entire logs of firewood in his mouth for fun:

He's a touch over 7 months old right now and weighs almost exactly the same as Stanley did full grown (140#). He's already a couple inches taller than Stanley was, and a lot longer. Waylon's dad is 240#, his mom is 210#, so he's likely to be a very big boy. English Mastiffs can grow until they are 2-3 years old, so we are trying to make sure we keep him at a healthy weight as his bones and joints develop. Right now he's eating 10 cups of dog food every day, plus several table spoons of cottage cheese and some chicken or beef, and he's staying fairly trim.

Damn im so sorry, I had no idea. I apologize if i brought up memories in a bad way

We had to put my black lab down about 6 or 7 months ago, she was 15. So i fully understand. It was a sad day for us.

Your new one is nice looking. Hes gonna be a big boy. Maybe you can teach him to fetch the firewood and bring it in the house. Hes got some big ass feet. lol

    What is his name?

Don't feel bad. I knew your intent was to be nice by asking. Stanley lived a great life, and a relatively long one for a Bullmastiff. That's the best we can do for them.

Very sorry about yours too, those very bad days at the end are usually WAY overruled by all the awesome ones before that.

    The new pup is Waylon.

Not necessarily named after Waylon Jennings, but yeah, the same. We like a human sounding name for a big dog.

    well I love the name.

and i agree big dogs need real people names.

my rescue pit her name is Omaha. that is what it was when we fostered her and then once we became foster failures we just left it. With that being said I love football and when we would watch the colts or the broncos play when Peyton Manning was QB he was always yelling Omaha in his cadence it was funny to watch her sit in front of the tv
