The thing is that the modern day Democrats have those old school conservative values now.

I do think that the GOP enjoyed the success of the 80's and then expected to win in 1992. The 1st Bush administration had won a war in Kuwait, the Soviet Union broke up and allowed religion in, computers were starting to take off in the home and were an improvement. But the loss lead the GOP congressional leadership to write 'The Contract With America'. Now, Dole wasn't a modern enough candidate in '96, but the GOP started to harden around a set of principles and ideas. Talk radio and word-of-mouth/political campaigns gave people the talking points to use and to try and change the minds of enough people. And by 2000 they started governing based on their principals instead of that was best for the country and all of the people. And then the Internet happened, and TV networks, talk radio, and the housing bubble burst and the recession happened. The only way to get back into power was to prevent the Democrats from doing anything successfully.

    I might have missed a gradual change...but...

I don't recall the words liberal and conservative being used very frequently until the 1980 Presidential race. It seems to me that Reagan started the conservative and liberal labelling, which lead to an us vs them division, which has evolved or devolved into our current partisan wars.

In our current political environment moderates don't seem to stand a chance. They either follow the party line, or end up as outsiders. Freshmen and junior politicians basically have to follow the party leaders.

Charles Koch regrets his partisanship: 'Boy, did we screw up!'

Boy, the world is topsy-turvy in 2020
    Are there pigs flying??

Next you'll hear is Putin saying I've been a bit of a pain in the rear.

But he's gotta stop funding the GOP for the most part, if they're going to find their way. They've lost their souls and spines.
Losing the cash is the only way they're going to learn.
And right now, much of it is from anti-government groups.

The solution isn't to tear it up...the fix is to make it more efficient. (seal up the corruption holes and allocate our funds more to things that are needed...infrastructure, etc)

If you get rid of government, another power just comes in and fills the void. Typically anarchist/authoritarian. Mad Max without the coolness.
Frankly, as much as I dislike them at times...I prefer politicians to punks. (murderous ones, not rockers)

Quite frankly, the Dems are center-right these days, not that much is going to change.
Heck, even Europe is very centrist these days.

I don't know of any country that's really left these days.
And Communism is a red herring. (Russia and China are both one party capitalists) -- correct me if I'm wrong.

Either way, Mr. Koch...the damage is done. You fed red meat to the leopards and now you're shocked they're eating faces.

Again, I don't mind much conservatism...but you gotta be more discrete where ya throw your cash.
Most of your begging dogs just bark and growl conservative...but in the end, they're just looking to serve the pack and fill their own bellies.

Corporations are who come in and fill the void in this country. They write the laws that benefit them. They get around the tax code. And they pit states and cities against each other for tax breaks and real taxpayer funded subsidies.

The big countries aren't communist, but Cuba and Vietnam have a version of communism. North Korea might consider themselves communist, but it is hard to say what they are. They seem to be more of a military dictatorship.

Serious conservative wants us to treat conservatism with the seriousness it deserves. Are you SERIOUS? Let us laugh even harder

    Look in the mirror
    Figure it out

YOU are actually the problem...even for yourself.

BTW, the 1st article is from the National Review...a traditionally conservative magazine. Even they are saying, it's gone over the edge.
Hell even Koch and other normally conservative pundits are saying it.

Go to rehab or something, get your head on straight...stop being toxic.
You're a danger to yourself and everyone else.

A thought carried over from the Trump thread...

If Trump survives, legally speaking, and decides to make a run in 2024, I wonder how the GOP would react. Much would depend on the strength of the other candidates, but Trump might represent a potential voting split the GOP wouldn't survive.

Let's hope the above turns out moot.
Or it happens depending on your politics.

Anonymously, most of the elected GOP members don't want him to run in 2024. It will either be a blowout in the primaries because Trump gave the voters everything they want. And Trump won't hesitate to beat down fellow GOP up and comers.

I notice that quite a few "acknowledgements" contain statements such as and very similar to "it appear" and "it seems."

    Are thse people
    that scared of Trump,
    that seriously supportive of Trump,
    that POd at Biden,
    still that delusional?

    Dear Republicans,

    Read, listen, and comprehend:
Trump lost the election. You lost the Presidency.
Biden won the election. The Democrats won the Presidency.
It's done. Get on with taking care of business.

Now this a conservative saying this
    A Republican strategist
But he’s a Never Trumper and a founder of the Lincoln Group

Still, to hear these words from him is profound

Then again, he’s correct to not be pulling punches
    Gotta stop being polite

Many GOP are lobbing grenades at how everything works.
Any means they can get away with.

A bunch, 106?, of House Republicans joined the lawsuit filed by Texas AG Ken Paxton seeking to delay certification of the votes in four states.

I seriously do not understand why this is happening. This is past ridiculous. The only thing I can figure is the Republicans are looking at Trump's popularity, and are trying to appeal to his base.

I hope voters remember the idiots who kept the circus open, and the Democrats remind them during future elections.

    Unfortunately, they won’t remember
    Or they won’t care

The only ones that would have already voted against Mr T.

Moscow Mitch and his commie bitch finally recognized President-Elect Biden. So who ultimately controls Mitch? Putin, or the fact that he married into the CCP and installed his spy wife as Secretary of Transportation? Either way his wrinkly old ass is bought and paid for, and not by America. Needs a lead lobotomy.

Whoa. Thanks for the eye opener.

Elaine Chao has no business holding any position in our government. Even with her removed, McConnell is seriously compromised. Even if he reclused himself from any issues dealing with China (pretty much impossible) his cronies would know it's in their best interest to support his financial interests.

Don't forget the aluminum plant that Rusal built in his state after he got the senate to lift restrictions on their sanctions for among otber things, election interference.
He has also taken millions of dollars from the tobacco industry over the years. I'm sure there is some calculus that would allow us to figure out how many thousands of lives were lost by his direct actions. How many billions of dollars were lost in medical costs. Some sort of human misery index for lung cancer, copd, heart attacks, and numerous other ailments. Gdp wasted on addictions and lost wages to illness and death.
